Anyone with a Palomino SS500 on a Tacoma?

I have a 3rd gen 2018 Tacoma double cab, long bed. The rating sticker on the door says my truck can carry 950 lbs. That doesn't seem to fit with what I've seen in other places. Anyone got words of wisdom?

Not sure how you're thinking it can work.
The fictional dry weight is 1200lbs, which already exceeds your truck's payload capacity of 950lbs, which is rated with no one in the Truck nor any cargo.
That 1200lbs of the SS500 is based on a stripped down version, with no battery, no options, no water and no cargo.

If the 950 number is from the driver's door yellow sticker, then it's not doable.

Check your payload again. Looking thru different specs and I'm finding payloads from 1540 up to 1620 for 2018 Extended cabs. That Palamino is built for GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado's, Ford Rangers. Your Tacoma should be able to handle it.

The first Colorados and Canyons were the same way. In 2005 I bought a new GMC Canyon, 2wd, Crew Cab with a 3.5L, I5. With a full tank of gas, my DW and I, the payload left was 150#, it was nothing more than a gasoline powered grocery cart.

My god that is horrible....for a 2018. My 2019 Colorado Crew is just shy of #1500 payload.

Yes, your reading it correctly.
Unfortunately there's no way any truck camper will work for that truck. You'll have a hard time finding anything bigger than a large popup, that will work.
That 950lbs payload has to account for everyone in the truck, any add-ons(like bed cover), a WDH(if you're towing a trailer, truck cargo and the loaded tongue weight of a trailer.

I have a 2009 double cab tacoma with a Palomino 1600 pop up, listed at 1150lb.
I first added Firestone airbags which helped a lot with stabilizing the load but anytime I was off pavement, the side to side torquing was a bit much. I recently replaced the rear springs with a heavy duty version and now the truck manages the load very well.

With that payload you need to look at the pop-up camper shells that offer an elevated sleeping platform; something like the Go Fast Camper, Four Wheel Camper Project M, Vagabond Drifter, and some others of similar design. You will still be pushing your payload but if you plan and pack accordingly you should be okay. Just can't be a FROG.
