2 questions on Tub Drain

Good Evening everyone

Sorry for any spelling errors tonight. My fingers are a little sticky from dealing with an overload of DiCor Lap sealant.

First question how do I remove the excessive amount of lap sealant from the drain area of the fiberglass shower tub? A previous owner of my TT used it as a sealant around the tub drain and now it stopped working and the tub leaks. I finally got the JR Product drain removed and ordered this one as a replacement. http://www.amazon.com/JR-Products-95...rchment%2C+pkg.

I need to get all of the Lap sealant off before I install the new drain.

Second question, to install the new drain correctly do I use plumber's putty just as I had when I renovated my sink on other house(the one without wheels).

Thanks all

Off plastic.. I'm not sure what's safe to use. Normally I would just use a razor blade and clean off any remaining residue using turpentine or mineral spirits (dabbed on a rag.. not directly). That's perfectly safe on my rubber roof, but I would be hesitant to try it on a tub basin. My concern would be that it might soften or discolor the plastic itself. You should be able to do all right with a razor blade. It's not a large area.

Plumbers putty is what I would use. You have to check it every couple of years, but you don't want anything even semi permanent so it's easily removed for repair/maintenance.
