I always go “on”. For one I don’t care for the constant rise and fall of temperature like a house but more pronounced, I also love the sound of the air conditioner. Many people complain about that, but I grew up with a fishing camp that had five window units that ran constantly. Cold, constant hum, best night sleep.

I just upgraded mine to HAVE an auto mode (central blast units do not have an auto mode normally). I don't think I'd like to sleep with the sound going off and on from dead quiet to rushing air sound. Kind of fixed the annoying compressor WHUMP! by adding a soft start. I do like the white noise made by the rushing air, helps mask outdoor sounds, especially people-made noise. Although it will never mask the noise of an asshat running an impact gun at 0600 to put his stabilizers up.

Ours is fairy quiet. I prefer to have the fan set on Auto. When it cycles, you can hear the fan start first then the compressor kicks on a few seconds later; turns off in reverse order.

Agreed with that 1000% and thanks for the laugh about the stabilizer jacks. I’m that asshat sometimes, but I have power jacks so it’s largely quiet.

power jacks good, impact gun BAD. I really don't understand those guys who have no shame waking everyone up at 0600. I use neither power jacks nor impact guns. Just a quiet wife with a crank, lol. I've made this her job while I do the heavy lifting.

Back to AC...

Setting the AC fan to On (always On) should smooth out hot spots by constantly moving air. This may reduce compressor cycling and still maintain temperatures. Day or night doesn't seem to make any difference.

A caution on fan speeds, though, as it's common for RV ACs to ice up if the fan speed is too low. Since mine only has High (Deafening) or Low (Annoying) it stays on High all the time. We try to find heavily shaded sites.

We run on low with no issues, but we also seem to have a well sized unit for the trailer. The AC cycling would be a no go for us on our 1-2 summer trips here in Tech-sus

Are y’all summer campers? I know we can keep our rig in the 70-72 range if it’s 105 out as long as we have good shade…

We don't have a choice. Our air conditioner is either on or off. The compressor cycles on and off, but it's designed for the fan to be always on.

We leave ours on 'Auto Low' most of the time. We switch to high if low doesn't keep up, or if it's going to be really warm out. Low also let's us run it from a 15 amp receptacle.
