Ambient Air Sensor - Heat Pump

Installed the new AC/ heat pump with thermostat this weekend. Everything seems to working correctly.

I know where the ambient air sensor plugs into the control box.
I'm not sure where to mount the other end. It has a ring terminal connector on the tail end. Right now I have it hanging in the return air side. I put the ring over a screw for the romex connector that secures the 120 volt power supply.

The return air is not really ambient air.
Thoughts are suggestions on where the ambient air sensor should be mounted?
