I had an additional pendant light fixture installed over the island on my Silverback. I asked the dealer if it was possible - they said "sure". Well, got the unit back after 3 months (don't ask . . .) and while everything looked good, upon closer inspection I found a major problem. There isn't any plywood or any other backer board behind the ceiling like there is for the factory installed lights. They just took a long sheet metal screw and screwed the fixture into the ceiling. What?!!?? How long is that going to last before it falls from the ceiling while travelling. What are these people thinking? ANYWAY - I'm done with the dealer. What do all of you suggest to correct this? I'm thinking of those plastic wall anchors that screw in - looks like a mini auger (EZ-Anchor Shop TOGGLER 20-Pack Self-Drilling Drywall Anchors with #8 x 1-1/2-in Screws at Lowes.com .
The hole for the wires is only about 3/4" so it would be difficult to put any wood up there to screw into.

Hard to tell exactly what you have without a pic and more info. How far apart are the trusses? I would definitely not hang the light from only the luan plywood unless it were a very lightweight fixture like a puck light or pancake style otherwise expect something to come down at some point.
You *might* be able to enlarge the hole as much as possible and try and feed a piece of say 1x2 that is long enough to sit on a lower chord of the trusses (either side of the light) into the ceiling space. Then you'll need to figure out a way to secure the 1x2 piece in place. Then use screws long enough to screw the light into the 1x2. If you have a skylight or AC unit nearby, you may be able to feed the 1x2 through if you take the trim off. A speaker may provide access too.

Too bad that FR doesn't give us design documents. I was able to make this drawing from some doc that I cajoled out of them. While you might not have the same unit, I think that the concepts should help when trying to locate overhead structure. Obviously they make sure that there is backer board for walls, cabinets, overheads, valences, etc. In addition you can see the roof truss concept pretty well.
