Recently my water heater tripped the breaker, I replaced the 2 thermostats and that bent wire with the spade connectors.
This seemed to fix the problem or so I thought.
Next morning had a shower no problem, later that afternoon I noticed the breaker had tripped, no idea when but now the breaker seems to trip after about 15 minutes or so. Guessing the thermostats wasn't the problem. Thinking now the the element.

Odd thing is though, with the breaker tripped or completely off, I still hear that faint whine. The whine stays on until I actually turn power switch for the heater off. Not the switch in the heater itself, there isn't one but the switch with all the others on the panel.

Any idea why I would hear this whine with the breaker off?
Is there still some power source getting to the heater somehow?

Yes I have the correct breaker, I've checked to be sure. 😁

Something to check is the voltage being supplied to the heater both at the incoming power to the rig and at the heater. In late afternoon or very hot days many areas experience a drop in voltage which drives the amperage up and with the heavy draw of the element that could cause the breaker to trip. I would pull the panel and check the connections at the switch to to ensure all are tight. good luck let the forum know what you find.i

Hmph, not sure what time of day it was when the WH heater initially tripped but it was HOT, mid 30s and has been, till today.
All this does makes sense, yesterday the only reason I even noticed the breaker was tripped was we forgot what all we had running and a different breaker tripped, when I open the breaker box there were 2 circuts tripped. The appliance one and the Water Heater breaker.

Ill try the electric again today, its cooler, and the CG is fairly empty.

What I don't understand is why would the WH still whine when the breaker is off though? The whine is controlled by the WH switch.

Thanks SeaDog

Edit: well tried the electric this morning, took about 15 minutes but it tripped.
