Battery

Looked at my rv today, at home... Always pluged in.... Noticed battery had a leak .. red on the concrete took off the battery cover and both caps where off, blown off ? I checked the battery 13.7 bolts... Lights still work on 12 volts... Is battery done or the converter? Click image for larger version

Are you plugged into shore power so that your converter is working?

Before condemning the battery, try a equalization charge if you have a charger that can output a voltage high enough.

Info here:

I bought a "Manual" charger just for this purpose, since I have 6 batteries total between my 2 trailers and cars. It does have to be carefully monitored for voltage, so I do it when I am doing other maintenance and just check every 5 to 10 minutes.

Your battery is likely toast but you may need to look at that converter when you get your new battery or batteries and make sure the converter is going to the correct float voltage. Wouldn't be the first time with the WFCO converters they put in these things.

The caps blew off because the battery was boiling. How were the electrolyte levels when you looked in the cells?

To me, its worthwhile changing these things out even if they seem to be working correctly. A new Progressive Dynamics converter is cheaper than expensive batteries. In your case, looks like you only have one 12V so you got of cheaply.

BTW, the float voltage should be maximum of 13.6V.

Water level was just a bit low.... I pulled battery out, hooked up to a charger/conditioner see if that helps... If not I'll probully get a new battery and a converter/ charger .... Will see... Thanks for your help

Handyman, put your trailer model/year in your signature so we might deduce what converter you have. Babock, seems like just today we were discussing converters, no?

Hi, fires are all around my county which is orange county... Most of the fires are north of me around 30 to 60 miles away. We do have alot of hills with lots of brush, I'm very surprised we don't have any fires... Knock on wood....

They are all near us up where I live. Around 5 miles away at this point but in the eastern part of Ventura county. Kinda normal for us now. Many of my friends are currently evacuated.
