Button Cap Removal?

Does anybody know how to get these off without damaging them so they can be reinstalled?

I want to replace the material with something more durable but don't want to break these so my wife doesn't go Chyna on me!

Thanks!

An automotive trim tool works well, but a couple of small flat bladed screw drivers work also,

Upholstery snap buttons

Those are covers that snap on. Underneath them is a screw with a plastic type washer that the button snaps onto. Try prying the cap off with a little screw driver.. Google upholstery snap buttons to see how they work.

I had to take of several on mine to get at the area behind them. I put a putty knife flat on the surface and then took a very small - like 1/2" wide - mini-prybar that I had and worked it under the edge of the button on top of the putty knife. Popped it right off. There is actually a metal snap inside the button like you'd find on a jacket or coat. The putty knife protected the material alongside the button from damage.
