Dometic 300 water valve

Well yesterday I started to de-winterize my camper cause this weekend going out for a quick get a way. After the mice fiasco, I thought everything would be up hill from there. I decided to connect my city water line and run all faucets to make sure all was good. As I was checking all connects I notice a flood occurring under my toilet. At first I thought it was the hose connection to the toilet from the water valve. But then after I was able to look behind the toilet I noticed it was the water valve it self. Cleaned everything up, figured out how to remove the valve. Now I was trying to get one ASAP! I need this fixed like yesterday. Any way picked one up from my local RV place. I can tell you I got taken for...$60 bucks later. I figured out by doing a lot of research that these water valve remove easy because they are to be removed during winter storage. And the local guy carries them because this is a known issues for dometic toilets. So glad this accrued in my driveway and not while I was camping this weekend. I would have been a unhappy camper if couldn't use my water till the problem was fixed. Just wondering if anyone out there has had this same issue. Happy camping to all!! 😉Click image for larger version

There have been multiple reports here of that valve failing over winter, especially by those who only drain or 'blow out' using compressed air.

Yes, I blow all my lines out and then add some of the pink anti-freeze down all drains. How are you suppose to know that some water in left in the valve. And what method can you use to make sure it's completely empty. I can only think of removing it and shaking all the water out of it and then replacing it.

That is why so many of us pump antifreeze into the plumbing system after blowing out. There is no way to know if a drop was left behind somewhere.
It only takes one drop of water in a valve or faucet to freeze and break something. But you already know that.

So what your saying is....if I just run the anti-freeze throughout my lines it will also go thru the water valve in the toilet if I flush it while adding the fluid? Correct? 🤔

Just got my new replacement part. Seems like it's made from a different type of plastic. More transparent then the original. Click image for larger version

I bought mine on Amazon for 20-25 bucks if I remember correctly. However, I could never get my old one out. My still works but just has restricted water flow - I didn't want to break anything so I didn't press the issue. Is there a trick to removing?

Sounds like it is not a bad part to have a spare on hand from what I have read.

This is a known issue - parts book.

Last year, during the de-winterizing process, we had the same issue (again) as it happened in both 2015 and 2016. When we stopped at a dealer, the parts person checked the Dometic Model 300 and 310 - and the parts book indicated that the valve should be removed each year if freezing is anticipated. We took ours out last year following winterization. Even after a complete blow out, the valve continued to hold 5-10 drops of water - which will break the interior. Hope this helps!

Your correct, after removal and shaking it for a while....I have to say that quite a bit of water came out. And this morning I shook it again and more water dripped out of it. Wish I had the time to order one on line, but since I am camping this weekend it was a emergency purchase. I will order a extra just to be sure. I have always blown out my lines to winterize, but by doing that it does not allow for all the water to empty out of the water valve. I was told pump the anti-freeze thru the lines and flush the toilet while doing so. This will push some of it into the water valve. I will be doing that next winter for sure.

Been there - done that. I do the 'blow out with compressed air' thing. My previous TT had a hand-operated valve that siphoned itself out when the drains are opened. Not so with foot-operated valves.

Season before last, I forgot the toilet valve while blowing and the water above the valve turned to ice and broke it. Found the jet of water while dewinterizing/sanitizing the day before the first trip of the season. Must have driven over 100 miles to find one (several dealers said they had one over the phone but didn't really when I got there).

With the memory of that, this past season I blew it out really thoroughly and did not have a problem this year (first trip completed last week).

Think I will be more thorough from this point on. If worst case scenario, I will just remove it and have peace of mind.

We now have 2 on hand - the one taken out and a spare. The warm home through the South Dakota winters is a whole lot cheaper and easier to do than the first trip 75 miles away from the nearest dealer and having to deal with a night without water turned on! Last year it snowed on our first trip and the campground bathrooms were still locked! Waited till the next day to find a dealer and the Dometic parts information.

I thought I was being too fussy blowing it out 3 times to winterize, guess not.

Mine failed a couple of years ago during a trip. It turns out that the valve stem was leaking, something that was almost impossible to locate. Dometic said that the valve couldn't be fixed, even though the only thing sealing the valve stem is a rubber O ring that I suspect was damaged.

I ordered a replacement from Amazon, next day delivery and ended up waiting five days for a second one to be sent because the first one was "lost" in shipping.

Despite Dometic's "cant fix it" statement, It's my belief that replacing the rubber O ring would have fixed my problem. I did discover that the valve can be disassembled to gain access to the O ring.

I need to see Pink from erery orfice to sleep througha hard winter. I have never figured out why the reluctance to use anti-freeze. $6.00 or so vs $60.00 valve. Give me pink. 👍
