E450 First Oil Change
I was wondering if there was any good advice regarding doing my own oil changes on my 2017 Sunseeker, E450? I would like to get it out of storage on the next day it is not freezing cold and change the oil in my driveway. I am probably most concerned with getting the right amount of torque on the drain plug and the filter. Any special tools? I plan to gain a little elbow room by using the leveling jacks? Which oil? which filter?

A couple things...
First, I would not work under a vehicle only held up by the leveling system. I'd at least use jack stands to supplement them.
The filter and oil weight recommendations are in your Ford Owners manual. But even so look at your oil fill cap to get the correct oil weight for your motor. As for brand there will be the usual "oil war" over which brand is best. I just use Ford's OEM oil and filter.
The first oil change also requires installing a few zerk grease fittings on the front suspension. The chassis is shipped with plugs in those locations. You might want to let a Ford dealer do the first oil change so those all get installed.
Other than the zerks there is nothing that requires any special tools...

Presuming you have the Triton V10 like I do, the oil filter may be attached to an oil cooler added to the base engine, and may not be the same filter specified for the base engine. I made the mistake of buying a filter per the owners manual, then found that the actual filter was different. I suggest removing the old one and taking it in for duplication or equivalent matchup with another brand (Wix makes good quality filters). Many vehicle OEM's now recommend light 5W-20 oil because they have to in order to claim slight additional fuel economy ratings. This will accelerate wear in a highly loaded engine. I use full synthetic 10W-30 from any reputable brand name, and change it myself after every major trip (usually ~5,000 mile trips).

Ford changed the oil recommendation on the V-10 for recently made engines so check your fill cap before you buy, I had to return the 5w-20 oil that Autozone sold me because my cap says 5w-30. This is on a late 2016 chassis. It is an easy oil change to do with the external filter design, I didn't even need to raise the front end.

This has never applied to the V10 since it was never in a vehicle that needed to meet fuel efficiency ratings. Use what the manuals say since the people that designed the engine likely know better than you and I.

think about getting it done at a ford dealer. the cost with coupon is really comparable to what you would pay for parts alone. you don't have to worry about your particular states disposal laws. plus, electronic documentation of date and mileage saved forever means no problems down the road if a warranty situation comes up and the dealer wants proof of oil changes. just a receipt for oil and filter don't cut it.

Easy oil change. Just buy quality oil of recommended viscosity.
A Ford OEM filter is really inexpensive.
You may consider replacing the drain plug with a Fumoto oil drain
valve. Makes next and subsequent oil draining much easier.

I am all about easier. Never considered it. No issue with the F106SX used without the ADP-106 adaptor?

My friend's Fumoto got surgically removed by a piece of truck tire. Only add if its pretty protected.

A bit late, but plenty of room, even for us pear shaped folks, with no jacking needed. If you must, park over a dip, or put two wheels on the sidewalk/curb for the few minutes you will need.

I agree. Never needed to jack up a 2WD 1.2T pickup either.
I also always use a torque wrench on oil drain bolts. Takes an extra minute but especially important on aluminum or hybrid pans. They have a spec for it for a reason and most good dealers use one.

The real PITA is our one vehicle with a disposable drain bolt gasket. I never can find a replacement, so I make one from some blank material... Tired reuse once, but the fresh syn oil found a way out.

I use Mobil One 5 W 20 in our 2003 F-150 our 2011 EDGE & our 2013 E-450,,,
I get it @ Sam's when they have it,,, and Motorcraft Filters from WallyWorld !!!
I would never put 10 W 30 in a Ford engine !!!

You didn't say whether you have gas or diesel. Makes a big difference. If you have a diesel be sure you change the fuel filters also. Also like one of the guys said, throw some stands under that thing. As for drain plug torque, make sure you start it good by hand and just snug it up good.

Ford never offered a diesel in an E450 for motorhome use.
It’s a V10 Gas.
