External steps during storage

We recently purchased a 2011 Georgetown 337 DS coach. When we park the RV in a parking space, we want the steps to retract and we want to set the house batteries switch to disconnect so that the house batteries do not drain while the coach is stored.

When we parked the coach today in the storage space, the only way to get the outside steps to retract was to leave the battery switch in the engaged position.

Are we doing this correctly?

When we put the battery switch in the disconnect position, the outside steps remained out.

We would appreciate your help solving this problem.

Thank you in advance.

I am not familiar with your coach but, typically the step power switch is only for retracting the steps, they will extend automatically (step switch ON or OFF) when the door is opened if they are retracted (last man out safety interlock). If you start the coach engine with the steps extended and the door closed the steps will retract even though the step switch is off (engine/step interlock). If you want the steps to retract for storage or whatever set battery disconnect ON, step switch ON, exit coach, close screen door, steps retract, reach through screen door and set step and battery switches to OFF, close main door and secure coach. This procedure should work for you. Some people use a magnet to simulate door closed at the step door closed sensor or install a bypass switch for the sensor. But if you can reach the switches through your screen door they are not needed. Hope this helps you out.
