Generator switches

We have a 2016 Forest River Sunseeker 3050sf. Our Onan 4000 generator has been giving us problems for a while. The interior switch quit working, so we would start it from the external switch on the generator. Now that switch isn’t working either. We have replaced some parts and done all the troubleshooting that makes sense and/or is available with the limited resources out there.
Does anyone have a wiring schematic or has anyone encountered this problem before?

To me, it sounds like you've done everything a DIYer can reasonably do. Whatever problem you have it sounds like it was acute when the switch stopped working.

Plus, you've changed parts and done trouble shooting.

If this were my unit, I would be calling my rv dealer and ask where to have it serviced. Not all rv dealers perform this level of generator trouble shooting but your regions Cummins N Power certainly would.

My 2 cents. A new genny is about $4000 if your lucky.

Your cost to have it serviced is far less.

I guess I should mention that my husband is a mechanic. He is working on dropping the generator now — since this model doesn’t have a slide-out rack. It’s just really frustrating to try to troubleshoot with no actual diagrams. Even the Battery Control Center fuse diagram doesn’t list all the fuses inside — specifically all the “Ks” and the company’s website says the model is discontinued.
I’m hopeful that someone has some miracle advice.

I am pretty sure I have manuals for a generator but not sure of the diagrams and detail. And they might not be what your looking for given the differences in model year.

2006 Sunseeker 2860ds with a 4KW Onan. I do have a start/stop and prime wall switch on the Convenience Center panel as well a switch on the generator itself.

With the problem you are having I would suspect an issue with the control module.

I dont see a new PM yet but my model is a Microquiet and the manual is available as a PDF for you to download.

Also, the link above takes you to a PDF for the MicroLite series so I think you have everything you need.

Give those manuals a look. In the meantime I will go out to the RV and get the manuals I have. Not 100% sure but I think the installation manual might be one of them, which is separate I believe from the operators manual.

I will keep checking my PM.

I do have the Onan Mobile GenSet Installation Manual for the KY model publication 981-0621 05-2000.

I have not looked on line but this manual may be available as a PDF to you and it does contain wiring diagrams.

I would post pictures of the diagrams on this message but my phone camera pictures are in a new format not recognized by the fr app.

Would be happy to copy the wiring diagrams for you and send to your email.

I was able to use your recommended manuals (and save them).
Ultimately, when he was trying to drop the generator down, the bolt connecting the grounding strap was rusted to the point of needing to be cut out. And, the grounding strap itself was so worn and frayed that it had basically disintegrated.

The fix was to remove/replace the main chassis ground wire; replaced all intermediate ground wires running to the generator on all connections; and added two additional ground wires running from the main ground on the wiring harness to the solenoid. Also, all bolts were replaced.

Hopefully this can help someone else down the line.

it just might be possible that the generator will work now that you have replaced the ground cables. no harm trying to see if it will start.

Yes, the fix actions made did indeed repair the generator (to include the interior switch).
