GM trailering App

Hey all. I bought my 2020 GMC Sierra 3.0 Duramax in December and one of the features I paid extra for was the trailering Tech package. It has extra cameras that make it super easy to hook up and monitor my roo, light testing, transmission temp reading and average mpg for the trailer. My truck didn’t come with the TPMS sensors that I had heard about which was very disappointing. My salesman said they were only available as an add on when you build at the factory. Last month I saw a set on eBay and figured I would get them and see if I could have the dealer pair them. I got bored today so decided I would install them myself just in case they didn’t work I wouldn’t be out more money. Wow! So much easier than I thought and boom the app made it really easy to pair right to my truck!

Gm has done an incredible job with these trucks! Not only does it tow like a dream, I can now monitor the temp and pressure as I’m driving down the road. Highly recommend!

That's pretty strange RE the sensors. My 2019 came with them. They were in the tray underneath the back seat.

I guess I’m 2020 they are a $50 add on. Did you install yours?

That's pretty awesome. I have always been a Ford guy, but I feel like they have dropped the ball on some stuff when it comes to connectivity. Like... Why can't I connect the trailer's rear view camera direct to the giant screen in my dashboard? Why am I sticking a crude bulky extra screen to my windshield in order to see behind my camper when the tech is there to have it go direct to the factory screen? Probably the same reason it took the manufacturers over 30 years to figure out to INCLUDE something like a brake controller.

But I digress. Nice truck.

The ford ultimate camera package supports a hard wired trailer camera and TPMS to the dash but the jerks disable the camera when driving over 5mph...only way to fix that is hardware that tells the truck you are not moving which breaks the GPS....stupid lawyers.

So if you want a trailer camera that only works wired when moving really slow they got you covered now.

GMs invisible trailer needs the camera hard wired as well and it needs to be placed at tailgate height...that doesn't work on a toy hauler or horse trailer. I like that you can add aftermarket sensors to GM or are they really just regular GM sensors?

Yes. Two on the camper and two on the boat. They work great.

I bought one of these:

to program them. Cheap ($11) and it works just fine.

Must be GM sensors but don’t need to be programmed at the factory when you build the truck. Gm does not sell the sensors separately so you need to find someone selling them that came with the truck?

Cancel that. It looks like they do sell them now but they are $110 for 2.

Okay, I'm not a Chevy/GMC guy (for the trucks), but that is pretty slick. It looks intuitive and easy to read. I like it.

Are you talking about the NAV-TV add-on? I have this (the COD-F50) and have not even had a chance to try it out on an actual trip. My understanding is, it interrupts the NAV while using one of the camera functions, but when you return, the NAV will return in 10 to 15 seconds. I will have to try this to be sure. This would be okay for me. My plans for the in-motion camera was not to have some function of it (in-bed view for example) on ALL the time, only for spot checks. Same for the trailer camera. Anyway, a bit more research, and to actually get out on a trip (stupid COVID crap) is in order.
