Heater/Furnace

What is a good # set thermostat for heater so it doesn’t get too hot in RV to where we don’t have to turn it on and off?

That really depends on your personal preference. If it was just me, it would be about 65 degrees. For my wife and mother-in-law that would be about 72 degrees minimum. What do you keep your house thermostat set at?

Now, what I have done is replaced the mechanical thermostat for my LP gas furnace that had the old lever slide control with this thermostat:

There is also a horizontal version that is a bit cheaper. Besides being able to see a digital number for temperature and setting, I like this thermostat because it has an adjustable range. Most thermostats work on +/- 1 degree spread. I found that my furnace was cycling on and off too much when it was cold and at night. So I set this thermostat for a 3 degree range. If it is set at 68 degrees, the furnace comes on at 65 degrees, and turns off at 69 degrees. To me, that keeps me comfortable and also prevents the furnace from cycling on and off excessively.

Is your thermostat a mechanical (spring) type? If so, this may explain things. As the Lieutenant Commander indicated, the point at which the thermostat triggers the on/off cycle needs to happen over a wider tolerance-range of temps to keep it from frequently cycling.

Our old Coleman (mechanical) thermostat cycled too often no matter the temperature to which it was set. We replaced it with a digital Honeywell RTH111 thermostat and that solved the problem. It was better right out of the box! This was especially important for us since we have a hybrid TT and the bunk ends affect the temperature more that your enclosed Cherokee.
