Help please

I'm having connection issues between the truck(16 f150) and trailer (Cherokee 274dbh). When hooking up through the 7pin it will show connected but will show disconnected randomly, I lose the electric brakes but not the turn signals/break lights. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds like you may have a bad ground.....easiest way to find out is to connect a wire between the truck chassis and the trailer chassis. If the problem goes away, you know where to look

It could be a bad plug or loose wire connection on either trailer or truck. Check them.

I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be a bad connection at truck/trailer plug. I used a flathead screw driver and an abrasive cloth to clean the contacts in the female plug and that fixed it.

Good Luck

Wiring

Due to water and rain these plugs have a tendency to go out. Replace and rewire every three years. My problem solved when following these instructions.

Close friend had the same problem with his '15 F-150. After the dealer sending him a brand new 7 pin trailer connection, the issue still persisted. Turns out, there was a bad ground. After finding the bad ground on his trailer, the problem has not come back since. Chase your grounds, both truck side, and trailer side. Hope this helps, good luck!

I use this CRC 11 oz. QD Electronic Cleaner-05103 - The Home Depot
on stuff that is is exposed to water. If you can get it Super CorrA is the best I think it made by Lektro-tech.
