Hole in wall

So the truck camper next to us fell into our side put a hole in side, resting on slide edge so hope it is ok. Just happened, so haven't talked to insurance or camper owner yet. My question is our trailer is 5 years old is this something we can patch ourselves if nothing else is wrong? Not real concerned about esthetics.

Fiberglass kits are available at Walmart. But, why not turn it over to their insurance?

Seems like truck camper's insurance should be taking care of this.

You should still collect from other persons insurance even if you don't have it fixed by a shop. Any internal damage? If you aren't concerned about aesthetics, maybe spray foam the hole, sand it down flat and place an Eternabond patch on it. Just an idea.

Hard to tell true extent of the damage by that pic. But yes it should be repairable. Not sure I would want to do it myself.

That hole looks like it's in the back of your fridge cavity. Hopefully, no damage to the fridge! Sure would suck if that truck camper didn't have any insurance on it.

Ouch! I wasn't sure what to expect when I read "fell" but that picture is worth a thousand words.

I agree about the other owner insurance company handling the repairs.

So he moved his trailer, hole not too bad, everything works. Probably taking it to a boat & rv shop that does gelcoat repair. No he does not have ins. but says he will take care of repairs, we will see. Seems like a nice guy but you never know, this is how he left his camper

We were able to temp park in another space cause that sure looks like another accident waiting to happen!

No insurance, how is he driving? If something like that happened to me the first person I would call is my insurance company. The next would be the campground. I don't trust someone I have never met to take care of everything. I might trade one day and I would want the camper fixed right.

I'm not going to be so quick to jump on the guy with the truck camper.

Looks like the units were in storage (either at a facility or a campground) and that's why so close to each other. At least it appears that way cause the OP would never be able to open the slide parked that close.

As to the accident waiting to happen, I'm guessing when the guy was contacted he came out and jacked the thing up to get it off the OP's camper and used whatever available to hold it there to keep it somewhat upright. Ground can shift and maybe that's what happened. We don't have a clue.

We don't know if the original holding fixture failed or if there were blocks under it or what... so maybe there isn't even a way to get it high enough to get under it until the OP's unit moves and possibly the other side that we can't see.

EDIT: in looking at the original photo, it appears the rear jack leg completely broke away from the mounting bracket on the rear of the truck camper. How can you blame the truck camper guy for that?

I'm not going to cast stones at the guy until someone says he's didn't take care of it.

Yes it is at our storage lot, it is an old camper and looks like the legs on that side came off due to wood rot it looks like, crap happens, it wasn't intentional, damage could have been way worse and we did have high winds that night, maybe he should have taken better care of camper but you dont always know what peoples situation is,but will be talking to storage lot to see if they can get him to remove the trailer. Not getting it fixed and parking next to that again!

Might check with storage lot manager. Don't know about where you are at but in my area the storage lots require you have insurance on anything stored in the lot. Some even have insurance that might cover it since it was weather related.

It's the way he left it, on stacked cement blocks, after removing it from the side of the Rockwood that I tarred and feathered the truck camper man about. How is that stable? That shows little to no concern for his neighbor.

I was always told you are supposed to lower truck campers down on blocks because the jacks are not made to support the camper for extended periods of time and can not stand up to windy conditions. If this is the case then it is the fault of the truck camper owner.
