lp detector

Having a problem with the lp detector on my 31 REDS Sabre. The fifth wheel is in storage and we went there the other day and the detector started going off. The propane tanks are closed. The battery didn't have enough power for lights so plugged in to tow vehicle and detector shut off. Do I have a propane problem or a battery problem?

Battery problem, maybe. The detectors go off when the voltage on the battery gets low. Since your trailer was in storage, and I assume, not plugged in, the detector, and some other stuff, draws the battery down. When you plugged in to the tow vehicle, it started charging the battery, brought the voltage back up enough for he detector to be happy, and quite. If you are going to leave your trailer for long periods of time,(30 days or more), not connected, as in storage, it is recommended that the battery be disconnected. This can be done manually, or by the addition of a battery "cut-off" switch. Search the Forum for "battery cut off" and ye shall find.

Ditto on the low battery. I had the same problem. Propane tanks shut off, trailer disconnected from shore power and eventually the detector went off.

ditto to windrider's post. either unhook the battery or put a battery disconnect in there.

since it was dead i would take it home with me and put it on a trickle charger for a day to get it back up to charge to!
