Murphy bed/couch - how to hold open hands free?

Got a Wolfpup with a Murphy bed/couch combo. Looking for a hands free solution ideas for holding the couch open for gaining access to the underneath storage. The issue is the couch not only lifts up but also slides forward so it seems like a simple strut won't work (as it's not a simple clam shell / single pivot hinge) and that a simple rod (e.g., like for holding a car good open) will tip over because once you lift the couch to open it wants to extend forward... Ideas?

The front panel on mine lifts up and out of the way. If yours is screwed on, maybe unscrew and thank a couple pieces of flat brackets and bend as hooks and attach to the panel and slip it over the front support.

I put a strap on ours under the cushion attached to one of the spring wires. It makes it easier to grab with one and and lift it up.

Thanks for comments and ideas. I realized after posting that I need to confirm with my wife if her concern is the bed open, closed or both conditions. I think when the bed is open there is enough downward force that a simple rod would work. For the couch situation it looks like I could make a wedge to obstruct the hinge assembly although I'm a bit worried about how sturdy the framework around the bottom of the sofa are.Click image for larger version

First thing we did with ours was take that puppy out and put in a reclining loveseat. Not enough storage room under there for much of anything anyways.
Best of luck

Install a hinge at bottom of panel.

The front plate on my couch was mounted using a couple of U Clips. I removed the U Clips and installed a couple of hinges to the bottom of the plate. After a bit of trial and error I found five small magnets attached to the underside of the frame and a flat metal strip mounted on the top inside plate allowed for easy access to the storage area under the couch.

ours had a small plastic tray attached to that front piece, pulling that forward would pull the try out, ... having the tray left so much unused storage space under the couch, ... I removed the tray and it's slides, using rubber strips as hinges, I can now lay the front down, ... I evidentially added a middle support piece to prevent bending the front frame of the couch, ...
