Question Need diesel expert help

I went out to start my truck we were going to the in laws for dinner. Truck started but was missing like crazy I turned it. We jumped in the Wife'said car and went to the in laws (where I am right now. Truck ran fine the other day. I'm thinking (and hoping) that it is a Cam Position Sensor. I have never had to change one but, have a spare one (was warned to have a spare). So to the experts when one goes bad is this a possible symptom? Truck is 2003 F250 7.3 PS.

Have you had the under valve cover wire harness issue yet?

Could be anything including an injector that bled down washing the cylinder out. I had that happen one time on my truck, it cleared up after a few minutes, hasn't missed a lick in probably 70,000 miles since.

They're known for cam sensors, the harness under the covers as mentioned, and low oil pressure from diluted oil can make them run rough.

I'm hoping for the cam sensor.

A faulty cam position sensor will not start. Also while cranking, the tachometer will not move because the CMP sensor drives the tach.

I was in a hurry yesterday as we needed to go to the in laws for dinner. When I got home I remembered that my Bullydog would show diagnostic codes so I checked it out. It had codes

P1316
P1247
P1211

In that order so I don't think it is the CPS anymore thinking and hoping it is a short in the Injector Wiring Harness. I have to go get a MRI this am and will mess with it when I got home from the MRI.

Need diesel expert help

If you have the ability to run an injector buzz test, do so and that will tell ya which side may have the under valve cover harness loose causing the runs rough, P1316 dtc. Or you can just update both sides and be done..... ( the bolt to remove the cam sensor is a 10mm headed bolt - just fyi ) even # bank of injectors are on drivers side and odd # bank of injectors is on passenger side of engine.

Clear the dtcs, p1247 is a boost code, p1211 is a high pressure oil system dtc, that could have been set due to cranking time.... They may not return after the p1316 dtc is fixed.

You say you have a gasket in hand, did you get the updated inner wire harness? 9D930 ?? The gasket alone isn't the issue, it's the harness tab will come loose..... Highly recommend replacing the harness under the valve cover.....

Well that didn't fix it. Doing some searching I am thinking it may be the IDM. Checked all the wires and the seem good.

Is not your CPS

The valve cover gaskets are reusable.

You should have look under the valve cover before buy a new harness as it may have come unplugged and could have fixed it for .25 cent (50 cent mod is for a quarter on each side).

You may have a bad ICP. Drivers side on the head. Is it leaking oil. Unplug it and see if the truck runs better.

Post your question and symptoms on this site.

Did you change it out yourself or pay someone? You should have been able to buy one a lot cheaper. How sure are you that it was the IDM unit itself and not just bad connections that would need cleaned, adjusted and greased (dielectric grease)?
