Nitrogen Battle vs Air

More on everyone's favourite topics. FTR I did use nitrogen when it was free. The tire dealer for my trailer had the machine break down and they did not fix . My new truck has Plain old Air.

X2 on waste. Someone would have to put the tire in a vacuum to remove the air else they are only adding a portion of nitrogen. "its flat on one side, lets fill it with nitrogen and sell it as nitrogen filled."
I put oversize tires on a jeep commander and the temp changes just a few degrees and a huge difference on the tpms. After a nitrogen fill, still a huge change with a few degrees but could see a fraction of help from the nitrogen. But it certainly does not prevent the varying temperature from varying the pressure as it is sold to do.

I fill my tires at home with a custom blend of nitrogen...78%

I also use a water separator on my air line. I have seen a few old rims that got a bit rusty on the inside.

FWIW my local tire dealer charges $20 a wheel for Nitrogen. Going to stick with my custom 78% blend.

Nitrogen to me is just a waste.....I have tried both ways have never noticed any difference..... My compressor in my garage still gives free air.

Personally I prefer to fill my tires with Nitrous Oxide. That way when one of these Nitrogen threads pops up, I can go out in the yard and inhale some out of the tire. Talk about a great buzz. That helps me maintain my sanity reading the nitrogen thread.

Personally, I have started to use acetylene in my tires.

These tire threads and the China Bomb debates are so explosive I figured if you can't beat 'em... join 'em!

It's like anything else, you buy what you like, I buy stuff I like and other people do the same. I don't follow the herd. Buy what you like and be happy. I'm sure what's a waste of money to some people that others swear by.

Nitrogen in tires, to me, are considered a "transfer device". They transfer my money to someone else. Regular air has supported me well for many years. To each, his own.

Tire Shop guy

I went in to check pressure on my truck tires.
The guy aired them up, and then tried to sell me on going Nitrogen. I told him I used 80% Nitrogen already, and get it for free. He was stunned.
He wanted to know "Where'd you get THAT?"
I told him it was a secret.

My sticker fell off after the first year. I took that to mean I could use air with impunity!

(Still have green caps, though!)
