Normal odometer reading on a new unit

I would like to know how much mileage should be on a new unit? I live In Florida purchase a 2017 forester in March of this year from florida outdoors in Stuart FL. when I picked up for delivery I noticed it had -about 3000 Miles in it, is this normal? The dealer says it could not be towed from where it was made, he says it had to be driven,
Am I bring BSed or what ?

He's right- they're driving, not towed. How many miles is it from northern Indiana (guessing as to its build source) to Stuart?

Depending on the dealer- it could have been shuffled from its dealer locations and maybe to a show or two.

That will have to be a lot of shuffling and shows. It's not 3000 miles from northern Indiana to Florida. Less than 1300 mi.

If it's a Class C the chassis cab may have been driven to the Forest River plant too.

That mileage to me does seem high! However, being you purchased it eight months ago there's no second guessing now !

Enjoy it and have fun RVing !

Are you asking for warranty purposes?

I'm guessing the OP is just asking to be sure he did not get a used unit? Oirs was purchased brand new and had around 2K+ miles on the odometer. I was told the RV had to be driven from the factory, to the dealer ship. I can believe that.

1300 miles from the Forester plant to Stuart, Fl. The dealer may have shuttled it back and forth to another lot. I know our dealer will take units from Florida to Tennessee during the summer and bring them back in the winter when the snowbirds with all the money flock down here.

Is anyone concerned that all these first BREAK IN miles are done at highway speed, and no rest period or various engine RPMs.

If I bought a new, expensive motorhome, I'd want to go pick it up myself and nurse it back to the dealer.

Does this 3000 miles come off the warrantee?

The extra miles may have come from shuttleing it around to RV shows in the state, I had looked at one before we chose the one we did and it had a lot more miles on it. They said it was used for shows.

I custom ordered and purchased from a San Diego dealer. That's about 2,200 miles from the factory. The odo reading when I bought it was 2,248. So, no side trips for mine.

I purchased in Oregon and mileage was 2520. Google maps show it to be 2150 miles.

Shouldn't the warranty start with the mileage when you pick it up at the dealer like an auto? Just asking, cause I have never owned any drive-able RV. My current TV had 1500 miles on it when I bought it new. I asked and was told it came from their other dealer ship TN. Only about 500 miles away. All checked out as new to me, so I had no problem. Warranty is adjusted from purchase date mileage.

Went through northern Indiana last week. East of Elkhart I saw a load of Class C's with only cabs on them headed west (they had some heavy duty plastic across the opening behind the front seats); so I assumed they were headed to Elkhart. They were on a tractor-trailer; not being driven.

Don't know if they are all transported this way, but these were.

I assume this isn't an option from the manufacturers. I think the only way you could almost do this is if you bought from one of the Indiana "wholesale" dealers. The trip from the factory to dealer would be minimized and then you could drive it however you want back to your home.

Nearly every new vehicle I ever bought seemed to be at another dealer 100 miles away. My local dealer would always offer to send a driver to pick it up. I would decline and offer my services, for free, to go get it and bring it back to the local dealer for final prep. This way I was sure it wasn't hot-rodded with near zero miles on the odometer. I like to break in the transmission, engine and breaks myself.

The Transport driver could have took a side trip, nothing unusual about that
