Not so fantastic fan

I did a quick search but didn't find any info on servicing the fantastic fans. We have the basic model in our bath. It is a 2015 so just a year old and still under the extended warranty. It is getting noisy. When running on either speed it squeaks. I tried a good shot of WD40 And it didn't help. Any suggestions on how to quiet it?

WD-40 isn't actually a lubricant so try some some light machine oil.

Better to contact the FF people as they're support is fantastic (pun intended). I once had a problem with the plastic surround melting while my A-frame, years out of warranty, was stored in the Phoenix summer heat. I contacted them about buying replacement parts. They asked what year trailer. When told, they said that was the year they tried another plastic formulation that didn't work out. They sent me all the parts I needed to repair the fan free of charge. Now, THAT'S customer service.

You say it "squeaks" well I think it's a sealed motor so WD40 will not help. Is it loose in the housing the 14x14 opening and the blade is making it move, is it reversible? will it also do the same thing? might need a new motor then.

Not reversible. I will take the screen off and see if anything is loose. I don't feel anything but can't get to the motor with the screen on.

The light weight oil might help too.
Thanks!

search for youtube videos on cleaning and taking apart fantastic fans to take everything apart... motor should not squeak... the fan might be loose in the housing and it rubs slightly somewhere

Warranty

I thought Fantastic Fans had a lifetime warranty. I would call the factory and check.

I have a quick question since e you say it is a 2015 why are you trying to fix it here? just contact the fan company or better yet FR or the warranty company I am sure any of them will be happy to help you fix the fan. since you say it squeaked and it is a sealed motor it most likely has a bad bushing, so just have it replaced and then you and your family can get back to enjoying your coach for the summer?

If you mess with it you may void the warranty.

Here is the warranty info:

I had an issue with one of my Fantastic Vents that was in Warranty, called my dealer and they were no help at all. I find going to a dealers with warranty issues are worthless so I went online and got the support folks from
Fantastic Vent to help, amazing experience, not only were they helpful but shot out my needed part that day and I got it within 4 days. Might I suggest if you are going to be somewhere for an extended time, say a week, give them a call ahead and see if they can expedite to you whatever you need to where you will be.

The warranty for the fan ( and most other appliances) is from the appliance manufacturer and not FR. Call them. Odds are they will send you the part and instructions if you want to do it yourself or provide you with an authorized dealer close to you that can do it for you.

I had the squeaking issue from our previous trailer. Looked like the motor bracket was supposed to be mounted on rubber feet or a spacer yet it was screwed right to the housing causing the fan blade to be too close to the screen. I took the pop out screen off then the blade off the motor so I could remove the motor bracket screws and placed four stainless small nuts as spacers to raise the fan up a bit. I'd like to see the parts list on the fan assembly as I suspect someone left a few out on the install.

It has always been thus...but does that exempt it from being a lubricant?

In many cases, WD-40 actually rinses off the lubricant. Then, when it evaporates, it leaves nothing behind. It is excellent, for what it was meant to do. At other things, it can make matters worse.

Damn, all that lubrication I've done with WD-40 over the past 40 years...wasn't!

By the way, oil displaces water too...

Hmmm. "Excellent for what it was meant to do." What's it meant to do?

Their website says "drives out moisture, protects, frees sticky mechanisms, removes, lubricates."

WD-40 EZ-REACHâ„¢ 14.4 OZ

Not saying I necessarily agree with all of these, but the company clearly thinks it lubricates.

Water Displacement. Intended to be sprayed on the inside and outside of a wet distributor cap of a stalled military vehicle so it can be restarted after the distributor takes a bath in a creek, pond or puddle. Made for the military.

Oil a squeaking door hinge in your house with it and see if it don't need it again within a couple of months. Not a good lube.
