Predator 3500 inverter

We bought the predator 3500 inverter. Everytime we run the ac even with nothing else on it continues to go into overload. We have a 30amp trailer that is the Cherokee 264ck. Any input as to why it may keep going into overload.

How are you plugged into the generator? Using the 30a twistlock outlet (with an adapter) or the 20a outlets? (with an adapter)

If you have 2 A/c units, shut one off at the breaker. You cant run both without softstart on both units. I run one on my toyhauler, but with both, it overloads the inverter.

Just had another camper with this like 2 weekends ago. His wasn’t a preditor but same issue.

If the t-stat suddenly loses power, the compressor stays engaged. First, turn off the breaker to the converter or wait 10-15 minutes before trying ac. Then turn on just the fan and let that run for a minute before flipping to ac. His worked after that.

It’s was a really hot weekend so the head pressure in the compressor could have been high also. I told him to get a hard start capacitor for $10 on amazon. Good idea to have one installed anyways.

Make sure your water heater is not on electric. The battery charger can draw a bit if your battery is low.

Will that work with an inverter not just a generator too?

How much current is your rig pulling with no AC running? Just plugged in with nothing turned on, ours pulls 3-4 amps. Maybe there is something running you are unaware of.
Do you have a surge guard or similar plugged into the gen?

Just charging batteries can draw that much depending on SOC.

Depending an rig specicifics there can also be 175 to over 300 watts drawn by refrigerator and if the water heater's electric element is on, there's a bunch more.

It might be a bad generator. Take it back to HF and exchange it.

Hondaman, can you tell us a little more about this? Where/how is it installed? What does it do? etc.

the hard start cap gives a little stored electric boost to the AC compressor on startup, so the genny does not stall...

read my post about install, and look it up on amazon

Thanks for sharing the install instructions and the link. I've got the capacitor ordered. I'll install it next time I'm able to work on the RV.
