Screw cover trim is splitting/cracking.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with the black vinyl screw cover trim on the vertical edges of their trailer? Ours is splitting and cracking.

I had to replace all of mine this year on a 2017 trailer. It was 8 screws and about 30min. The hardest part was the top front where I had to remove some dicore. I ended up covering it with eternabond along the roof line but still have it on the slide uncovered. I think the replacement will only last a few years under the sun as it gets brittle and splits.

This used to be made much thicker but I cannot find it that way anymore. I have a few work trailers that it lasted more than 10 yrs outside all the time.

For the first few years my trailer was uncovered but now it is under cover since last fall.

We replaced ours on our 2013 Puma so far the 2017 Wildwood is ok.

The trim is cheap an seems to dry rot . Got ours from our dealer.

For some unexplained reason the polymers used in that vinyl stripping cause it to contract (shrink), rather than expand when exposed to direct sunlight.

Whenever I replaced mine, I always tried to push more into the track....but don't push too hard. I would get maybe a year or two more before it shrunk and started to expose the first screws. On our old Jayco Popup, it had a seam down the center of the roof. I'd replace that on every couple years and I always let it run about 1 to 1.5" long on the front and back to allow for shrinkage.

Had to replace both sides on the MH. The drivers side was stretched so much it came loose while driving. Went to the local RV shop and bought 70 feet. Don't remember how much it cost, but wasn't expensive. Have fun and go slow...

Mine split down the front cover on both ends. I tried 1” but it kept popping out one side.

I think mine is a weird size. I ordered 7/8”.

My TT was a year old when I bought it (priced right) and one side of the vertical trim cracked and fell out on our third trip. I went back to the dealer and told him that if he gave me 50 ft and a tube of dicor sealant I would do it myself. The shop was backed up on repairs so rather than wait I did it myself. The front left section took me about 1/2 hours to do it myself. The next year, the right front split and I had enough of everything to fix it also.

ours was split in less than 3 years. I replaced it with JR Products vinyl trim, which comes with a "Lifetime Warranty". It seems to be holding up just fine after two years.

Failure on 2020 Apex

The screw cap on our 2020 Apex 245BHS shrunk while traveling through Nevada last month in 110 degree heat. The cap blew out in the wind and we had to replace it. I used JR products Premium to replace the cap. Forest RiverApex as offered to reimburse me for the material to replace the cap. The new cap did Not fail in the same heat on he way home. Bummer the original cap was no as good as JR product
