Blow lines with air

Guess what happens when the pipes get half full of water and the air you are blowing in goes right over the top of the water leaving the lines half full!

Same with water heater. Pulling the drain plug still leaves water in the bottom unless you insert a small hose while its draining and syphon out the bottom.

That concept has been discussed many, many times around here.

Actually, a little bit of water in the water heater isn't that big of a deal. It has room to expand in there at least.

water heater

Tell that to my friend who had "some" water left in the bottom of her water heater and it froze and busted the bottom liner of the tank.

I just drain my tank on Sunday you would not believe what little water and dirt I got out of it.

I've never heard of that happening before.

It *should* be like the old ice cube trays in a freezer where the water has plenty of room to expand.

In all my years of camping I've never made it a point to get every last drop out of the water heater and never had an issue.

Not only have I not had that problem I have never heard of it either, not even when I lived in Fairbanks, AK.

There is no way a little water in the bottom could expand enough to damage the tank or liner.

I can see vacuuming it out though, particularly a suburban WH that has an anode to get all the little white pellets out so they don't get into his hot water lines.
