Skirting on slideout flapping in the wind

The skirting on one of my slide-outs had no support brackets, and the skirting screws kept backing out. I also noticed how much it was flapping in the wind as I was going down the road. Today, I remedied that by using a piece of 1" wide x 1/8" thick aluminum stock from Home Depot, several stainless steel screws, and stainless steel locking nuts. I bent the aluminum in my vice and was very pleased with the outcome. That skirting isn't going to flap any more!

Good job.

The skirting on our unit has factory brackets almost identical to what you made, but yours is much thicker and better formed.

Thanks. I was amazed that there was almost a 15 foot span with no supports, and I've got to tell you that the skirt was really flapping hard going down the highway.

My passenger side skirting basically blew off an hour and a half after leaving the dealership. After lots of arguments with FR they sent me a new piece which I installed myself, with additional brackets.

This year the skirting on the driver's side started to blow loose. It is a 10 foot piece which was held in place by a bracket and a sheet metal screw at each end and one (yes one) sheet metal screw in the middle. Fortunately I spotted it before it came right off and made temporary repairs (half roll of electricians tape) to get it home.

I copied the brackets using aluminum bar stock and installed new ones every
2 1/2 feet. Likewise with the upper screws. The end screws were replaced with stainless bolts and lock nuts. It ain't coming off again!

Brackets on skirting

My 2017 FR LaCrosse also had no bracing on the skirting. On our maden voyage from Fort Smith AR to Whidbey Island WA I had the skirting on a slide completely come off only 70 miles from home on our return trip. FR provided the parts and my local dealer who sold me the new trailer replaced the parts. I noticed also that the plastic wheel skirts were cracked around 80% of the mounting screws on both sides of the trailer. I did not like the quality of the dealer fix so I pruchased aluminum angle and installed a bracket every 6 ft on the lower skirts for the full length of the trailer 33' 8". One end attached the the bottom of the skirt and the other end attached to each gusset comming off the I beam frame. Now the skirts and solid and no movement going down the road at 65 MPH. For the slide skirts I made aluminum brackets similar to the homemade aluminum brackets featured it this thread from another Forest River owner. Happy Trails!

Really nice post. Picture, to the point, doesn't get much better than that. I noticed the long screw at the bottom of the finder. It that works loose at any time, I found a small block of wood behind the screw stopped any backing out of the screw. Also the extra weight however little aids in stopping any movement in the fender.
