i have a sunseeker 3170 and came across this strap in my bag with manuals. Can't seem to figure out what it is. thanks!

That's an awning strap to pull your awning out if................
The little grayish plastic piece fits in the awning tube's slot.

And do what with it when you don't need it?

It is for emergency retract. Not ever needed under any other circumstance on an electric awning.

Slid it to one end, and wrap it around the frame !!!

If you do place it in the awning for full time storage, so you know where it is when you need it, you can simply let it roll up in side the awning.
Here is its true use.


In Case Of Coach Power Failure Or To Manually

Close Awning:
Important: This procedure will require two people. When this procedure has been performed, the awning must be serviced by a Dometic Service Center or a qualified service technician before using again.
1. Slide the pull strap (provided) into the utility slot of the FRTA.
2. While one person is holding onto the pull strap, remove the screw in the top of the right top casting.
The FRTA will immediately roll in once the bolt is removed. Walk the awning to the closed position.
3. Align hole where screw was removed and replace screw into top casting to secure awning. Attached Thumbnails

Agreed. For an electric awning, I actually don't see that you would ever need it. I've had at least three awning motor failures that I remember. I got real good at rolling it up by hand. Actually unrolled it by hand once as I was bound and determined to use my #$&# awning whether the motor worked or not!
Can't see that the strap would of been any use at all. There was never enough recoil in the awning to even start rolling itself up. But it's still in the RV. Guess I could give it to a dog walker

So that when you hurriedly go inside because it's a bit windy and press the switch it creates havoc by winding up and bending the arm?

On a MANUAL awning... yes, because you need it to retract/extend.

Never needed on an ELECTRIC awning unless an emergency retract is necessary.

Its the strap to pull down your awning. You put it in the track when winding up your awning and the strap should hang down enough to grab and pull out the awning after flipping the toggle thing on the end of the awning
