GOT IT!!!

Drilled the stud out to weaken and broke it off. I tired to drill straight down the center of the stud, but hard to do when holding vise grips and drill. Got off center, but was able to drill far enough past the lug. The stud drilled surprising easy.

Good Job!

With all the advice and possible solutions, I was wondering what you would go with.

Captain your are my GS's hero. He loves CA.

FWIW in case you didn't catch it...be careful the new stud seats tight or replace what is needed.

Took the hub off and the stud fell out. All the splines are gone. Tomorrow, off to the auto parts store to get a new stud, seal, cotter pin. Hopefully I can find a stud that will press in and hold. If not, I will spot weld the stud to the hub.

Sorry for the late update....

Got a new stud for part store and installed in hub. There was no damage to the hole in hub, the splines on the stud sheared off.

Tightened new stud in hub, inspected brakes, repacked bearings, and we are off.
