Stabilizer Jacks vs Stack Jacks vs Scissor Jacks

All, I just bought a used 2004 Flagstaff 174 LTD, and it's only got the BAL 23025 stabilizer jacks on the back. I want to add two more stabilizers up front to keep this thing from wobbling so much when we walk around in it, and to help out when we camp in uneven areas (for leveling purposes). I looked into putting two more of the BAL's on the front, but I'd have to weld in a piece of angle iron to mount them to, and I'm no welder. Therefore I'm now looking into something "easier", like stack jacks or scissor jacks. However, I'm confused as to how these stack jacks stay in place since they don't actually attach to the frame (gravity, I'm assuming). I think I could purchase mountable scissor jacks that would just need one piece of frame to mount to, versus how the BAL stabilizer jacks require two pieces of frame (and therefore the angle iron).

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, as I'm headed to a very unlevel campground this weekend, according to reviews. Thanks!!!

These jacks your talking about, I think they are for stabilizing, NOT leveling. Some companies sell them as "Leveling/Stabilizer Jacks", but they are not. You use them to stabilize the camper after you level it, by applying enough pressure to, well stabilize, but not lift the camper.

To level the camper you would use blocks of wood or something similar, under the low side tire to get the camper level side to side. Then you use the tongue jack to level front to back.

I use some of the pyramid jacks you can get at Wal-Mart, with a block of wood on top just under the frame and bottom for extra stabilization support.

Thanks Russ... the explanation about using blocks to level the camper side to side, and then the tongue for the front to back helped me understand it more (only been camping once in my PUP). I'm looking to just use these to "snug up" the camper some, to keep it from wobbling so much when we get inside. Are the "pyramid jacks" that you mentioned like these? That's them. You can get them in a two pack as well. The other jacks your talking about will work to. Like you said some of them are designed to be a permanently mounted to the box of your pop-up. I got the pyramid because I was not sure where under my camper I needed to place them.

BTW I tried to use the stabilizing jacks to level my first pop-up too...

One more thing, allot of poeple that have pop-up's seem to like the BAL Tire Leveler. There is one for sale on this forum at;

They didn't have these when I had a pop-up so I have no idea weather they are good or bad. I'm sure you can find out more info on them from the forum.

Thanks guys, I just bought a couple of the stack jacks off of Amazon, so they should be here in time for my trip. I'll report back on how they worked out... thanks again, I appreciate the input!
