We have a Georgetown 36B5 and all of a sudden our stairs will not come down unless the engine is on. It is plugged in to shore power but was unplugged for approximately 3 weeks. They worked before we unplugged it but do not work now.
What you mean to say is with engine running the steps extend with door open and retract with door closed no matter steps switch position (normal) because of ignition/steps interlock (normal). Just sounds as though the coach batteries are low. The engine alternator supplies power to the coach batteries (for charging) with engine running and then there is sufficient power for the steps.
The batteries (coach and chassis) will charge via the converter while on shore power as long as the coach batteries are not disconnected via the battery disconnect switch. Be sure and press the top half of the switch to make sure they are not disconnected because the light in the switch will illuminate even if they are disconnected.
