Tank flush

Why is it that they always cut the end of the hose off at the dump station, makes it a pain to try and flush black tank.

That's the very reason I made myself an 10 foot hose out of an old one I had in the garage. I store it with the flush hoses.

Because so many abuse the privilege by flushing multiple times, while the line for it, grows longer and longer.

It's a dump station, not a flush station. Get a full hookup site and do your flushing there. You are not entitled to make everyone wait for you. Dump, dunce your hose out and leave, simple!

You can use a Water Bandit, but yes you should use it when no one is waiting inline....

As for some, I can hook up, flush three times, rinse, pack up, and be out of there in about 5-6 minutes. It's the Ma and Pa Kettle's that feel they have to hook up water, let it run for 20 minutes, sweep out the trailer, wash the truck windows, dump the trash, take the pooch for a walk, check tire pressure, check oil, all while a dozen or more are waiting in line to dump and flush.

I've seen someone wasting off the front of their MH with the flush hose.

A32DUECE, I'll remember that next time I'm at a state or federal campground with no full hookups!

You can still dump. I don't flush every time! Not necessary.

Rince hose out. Darn spell check.
See it all the time at our home camp ground, dump and do all that was said before with 10 lined up behind them!

You can buy a garden hose fitting and hose clamp to install on that hose but only do it when there is no one in line. When we camp midweek at provincial parks during the school year, there isn’t anybody at the dump station so I could do it then but I don’t carry the fitting. I have thought about it though.

If I see more than 1 or two people waiting I'll skip the flush. Otherwise, I have the hose hooked up while the black tank is draining. Once stuff stops flowing I close the valve, turn on the water, set my phone for 3 minutes and then shut the water off when it beeps. That's it, one quick rinse and since I actually have things ready when I pull up to the dump tank, I'm not fiddling around for 5 minutes getting my hose, connectors and whatever else out I'm done quicker than most folks that don't do a flush.

If I have anyone waiting I will skip the flush.

I noticed that too when using the dump station for very first time on Sunday. Luckily, procrastinator that I am, I didn't leave my site until 2pm checkout time, at which point nobody was using the dump stations, so had time to hook my own flush hose up and do the rinse. Also glad my 28g Rhino turd cart is on the way, so I can dump and rinse at my leisure, even at home now. (I have a septic tank).

The answer is simple... many people abuse the purpose of the dump station by taking an exorbitant amount of time flushing their tanks and washing other things. The owners cut off the hose end to try to scale back the abuse.

It is a dump station. Dump only if there are folks waiting and leave the cleaning/refilling/flushing until the next time. You don't NEED to have a squeaky clean tank every time you dump. If no one is in line, don't abuse your dump time but get the heck out of there if someone else is waiting.

If you want to add water/chemicals to your black tank for the trip home, pull ahead and get out of the way and use your pump and fresh tank to add water to the black tank via the toilet or a hose connected to the low point drain/outside shower via the black tank flush. You should have some water in your fresh tank anyway for potty breaks or emergencies.

It is all about being courteous.

Agree. No need to flush every time. If anyone is behind you, skip the flush.

Even though it's usually clearly marked "Non-Potable Water", I always thought they cut off the end of the hose to make sure (or make it harder) people couldn't fill the fresh water tank.
When I am done with my camping trip and I'm taking the TT home to the storage lot until the next camping trip (which could be a month between trips), I always flush my black tank when I'm at the dump station. I haven't found any one whose gets upset while waiting for me to flush my tank, most of the time there is no one waiting behind me (and if no one is waiting, I flush my tanks more then once) and if someone does pull up, 99% of the time they come up and talk to us while we are dumping/flushing.
We never camp at full hook up sites, and I would never store my TT without flushing the black tank at least once while at the dump station.
My black tank is only 36 gallons, so dumping it and flushing it is quick.
I don't take a hose inside my TT to flush, I have 2- 3 gallon jugs.
DW and I work together to get the dumping done quickly ....
While I get everything ready for dumping (hoses, fittings, connecting it all together, etc.), DW will fill the 3 gallon jugs and carry them inside the TT. Then I will dump the black tank and when it's done, I close the valve, knock on the side of the TT and DW will empty the 2- 3 gallon jugs into the toilet, then she knocks back when she is done. I pull the valve and dump the black tank again.
If no one is waiting behind us, DW will bring the jugs back out, refill, carry back into the TT (I help her) and we do it all again.
Then I dump the grey tank, DW will fill 1 of the 3 gallon jug and dump it in the toilet. That water will stay in the tank until our next camping trip.
I rinse everything off, pack up the hoses, connections, etc., clean up around the dump station, and DW will close up the TT. We are done.
We both know what our "jobs" are so it goes pretty quick and smooth.
We always seem to check out at the last possible minute, so normally there is never any one waiting behind us at the dump station.

And I always thought the hose was cut to make it easier to drink from, less turbulent flow. The kids always enjoy drinking from this hose while waiting for me to dump the tanks, a cool refreshing treat to beat the heat!

I use a combination of the Geo Method and RV Digest-It in my black tank. I just read on the website for RV Digest-It that you only need to flush the black tank every 3 to 5 dumps although they recommend flushing for 20 to 30 minutes! That's not going to happen even at a FHU site.

That is one of the main reasons that I never check out of a campground on a Sunday. Too busy at the dump station. Preferably, if there is a dump station and a limited number of full hookups, usually by Monday or Tuesday, everyone is gone and you can dump and flush at a site with sewer connect instead of getting around the muddy and stinky dump station.
