Tire questions

I am trying to determine why I had a blowout on one of my tires last night. I am wondering if Forest River uses cheap tires? My trailer is a little more than a year old and hasnt been pulled more than 500 miles yet. Last night my right rear tire developed a bulge and then blew. I am also wondering is it safe to travel any distance with only one tire on a dual axel system? I had to drive a few miles before I could find a place to pull over. I always adjust to proper air pressure before a trip with nitrogen. Has anybody else had unwarrented failures on these new tires?

Sorry, that doesn't look like a tire with only 500 miles on it. What was the inflation pressure before you left on your trip?

Chances are FR used the cheapest Chinese tire they could source. Tires are probably the most discussed issue in RV forums, just search on "tires." It would help to know the brand you have.

Towing with only one tire will severely overload it and it probably should be replaced, too. No spare or road service? If you have to replace your tires, it's best to upgrade from a c-rated to d-rated, or d- to e-rated. If you do, make sure your wheels are rated for the additional psi required.

While what Phillyg says is somewhat true, your picture shows the tire to be severely worn for some reason. Might have had some misalignment scrubbing or some from running on it after the blow out, hard to tell.

My opinion is... that tire has been "bad" for a while. The tire appears to be worn in the blown area which to me translates to a broken belt/worn on the high spot.

These could easily be detected(when kinda) by jacking the RV up and rotating the tire and paying attention to OD of the tire and "checking for round" as you spin it.

Could easily be caused by impact on the tire...FWIW

One more thing... That "few miles" on one tire translates to a possible overload on the one tire.

I've just gotten into the habit of giving a quick glance at each tire including the treads (and touch the hubs to see if they are hot) every time I stop for gas or meals...

Only takes a few seconds and should alert to most approaching problems.

I'm currently dealing with this exact same issue. Go though all of the paperwork with the camper and find the one for the tire. Call the number and file a warranty claim. Mine caused damage to the rv so I got sent to a different department. They had ups pick up all 4 tires (I had all 4 replaced) to take their engineering department so they can determine what caused the issue. They lady on the phone said she would give a good will gesture of 125 per tire so that will almost pay for the new maxis. I'm currently waiting to see what they come back with, but I'm expecting them to say it was something I did wrong and weasel out of them.

My tires were 2 years old and I was planning on replacing them this winter. I made sure they had 80 psi in them when leaving and keep it at 65 or below.

Lower cost RVs use cheap ST tires and to my knowledge, they are all made overseas. My 2018 Cardinal 3825 came with Goodyear LT tires.

Many of the "higher priced" RV's come with cheap tires, too!
