Apparently my Tekonsha Envoy controller is not activating the trailer brakes. This was discovered during a State Safety inspection. The manual slide switch, and Break-away switch both work.
Is there a way I can further test this, without an electronics bench or road test?
If the slide switch and the break away both work, then the trouble isn't with your trailer or your truck wiring. I'd inspect the controller module itself.
Have you tried increasing the gain?
Was it installed parallel to the motion of the truck?

This is not a new installation so yes it is pointed level, straight ahead. The inspection was done at a tire shop. All previous inspections were at the RV dealer, hummm...
Usually when I hook up I check for a green led on the controller and then use the manual slider to check for braking. I just realized that while going to/from the tire shop when applying the vehicle brakes the led was not changing from green to red as it should to indicate the trailer brakes are drawing power.
Could the trailer pigtail connection be just enough electrically, for manual brake activation, but not good enough for the controller to function with the brake pedal?
It sounds like your power knob got turned inadvertently. I would back the TV close enough to connect your TV and TT pigtail. If your not getting a light change when the brake is applied, adjust the power knob until you do. If there is still no change, buy that $25 one from Ebay.
