Here's info on powder post beetles. They don't look like the pic you posted, so hopefully that's a good thing.

Looks like a carpenter ant to me. Is it red or black? In Florida they are red.

Thanks! I’ve learned it is definite an ant. I know Forest River had issues with that beetle even saw someone in their forum ended their discussion per a non disclosure settlement [emoji848]

Black and the size of a flea. We only see them if we hit on the wall and just 3 or 4 at a time

Not a carpenter ant, too small, but an ant just the same.

True. Visual damage is one thing it’s what we don’t see that has me worried and RV is only year old and I doubt anything will be covered by warranty.

If we cut a hole in wall to see if we can determine damage do you think that would void any warranty? Or if i get an exterminator?

Termites or Carpenter Ants? What to Look Out For : Steve Allen Construction

This link has useful info to help identify carpenter ants or termites. Not a great photo but I am leaning towards carpenter ants. Definitely call an exterminator right away. Do you see any ants around your tires, power cord, jacks or stabilizers? Termites like moist wood not sure about carpenter ants. Still check inspect roof and walls for leaks.

Thank you. I’ll call exterminator to identify and treat and just wait for my dealership appointment to assess damage and find out if there may be a leak.

Ive had problems with ants at my house. This works well for me.
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup icing sugar
1 1/2 tbsp borax or borasic acid.

Put a small amount in something like a small margarine container. Also use a cotton ball or gauze pad to wick the solution up to the side of your container. Place at the ants location. Ants will be attracted to the sugary mixture and drink. They will carry it back to their nest and feed. The borax will poison them. There are you tube videos on this solution

We use Peppermint spray. Just a few drops of peppermint oil in water, and spray around, after a few days, no more ants..

Looks kind of like Acrobat Ants. They like to get behind the wall and eat insulation. We had them at one of our remote sites.

Those are carpenter ants, we know because we had them in the wall of our house.

This is a serious problem as we have dealt with this. It is a clear sign of water intrusion It was our camera housing leaking that caused ours. As it had leaked from the day we picked it up and two separate dealers/repair shops couldn't find it, it ended covered under warranty.

First fix was a replacement of the luan skin and wall paper of the entire back inside. This was all FR would approve at that time. Within six months we had a delamination bubble on the exterior. We went back to FR because it was caused by the initial leak and they approved the replacement of the complete end of the rig. They had it shipped from the factory to Florida for installation.

You definitely want to caulk everything attached to the rig. The ants may be a side effect of them finding the moisture.

I would definitely contact FR directly as it occured during your initial warranty period. We were extremely pleased with how they handled this situation.

Best of luck.

Carpenter ant

I add that problem 2 years ago!
I try all recepies none to man but the solution was $400. Exterminator.
2 treatements, one right a way and second one, at the end of the summer.
You have to empty the trailer and live the trailor close for minimum 24 hrs when treated.
Then these ant like wet sterofoam so they will comme back if you dont removed that wet stuff and you cannot stop them from comming in from all small crack or opening in the trailor.

I found a roof leak that run down the wall and all the way to the floor.
I had to replace the complete floor of my trailor and doing so I could find plenty of dead ant nest.

Problem cured now!!!

Yes. The ants are a bi-product from the leak.

Well from an RV tech colony of ants appears extensive. This did not happen overnight! Epidemiologist mentioned larvae could have been in wood when RV was built. We took delivery 1 year 3 days ago. Thanks for all your tips!
