Window issues

Any suggestions on how to fix these? Anyone had and solved these issues? First picture shows living room window not meeting the gasket. This is a new gasket installed in Elkhart.

The picture below is of what appears to be a broken rivet on the window closing mechanism.

The closing mechanism may not be putting sufficient pull on the window to mate with the gasket because of the blown out rivet. Assuming the mechanism is good, (they have a tendency to fail) I would just drill out the rivet and replace it with a stainless steel machine bolt and nylock nut. I believe I used 10-24 bolts in mine, I don't remember the length. After you have the mechanism bolted down tight, recheck the gasket.

Thanks Finster. You may be on to something here. I looked again at the assembly on both windows. This one is mounted on the inside of the window frame. The one next to it is mounted on the outside. Perhaps re-mounting it on the outside would correct the problem. I have never drilled out a rivet before. Any pointers on how to do this?

Open the window as wide as possible to give yourself enough room to work without the bit hitting the glass if it goes through the rivet. Use sharp bits so the tool does the work. Light pressure on the drill. All you have to drill out is the head of the rivet, the rest will fall out or pull through the back side. If you don't know what size rivet it is, start with a smaller size and progress to larger sizes. Mine was 3/16". If you don't know the size, I'd start with 1/8" and go up. Your not trying to drill all the way theough, just remove the head and stop. The rest should push out or fall out.

From your pic, this one appears to be installed on the OUTSIDE of the frame. That's probably why it's not pulling the window in far enough. Move it to the inside to increase the "pull-in" when you close it.

Might also explain why the rivet is failing. When you tighten the window, all the force is on the two rivets. With the mechanism on the inside of the frame, the closing force would be taken by the frame and the opening force (which should be less) by the rivets.

Thanks rockfordroo, that is the plan. Can't wait for a camping season with nothing to fix. Season four and still trying to get this thing to act like the new MH I paid for. [emoji41]
