There's a lot of mention about the Berkshire going head to head with the Ventana and the Charleston going after the Dutch Star market now that Forest River has added the tag axle. I wonder how far they will go down that road. Will they offer a side radiator and IFS? Will there be an all-electric option? These are some of the questions I would have about where the market intent is going.

If they can offer things like a side radiator and IFS with an all-electric option then they would be more of a direct threat to Newmar. If they can offer those and keep the price point down then we may see a lot more Berkshires out there.

The xlt currently has a side radiator. I also like the thought about an all electric option, but that would probably mean having to add some type of hydronic heating system. I could see this in the Charleston, but could get Berk to a price point where it starts to lose some of it's value appeal.

X2 Rich. I suspect the differentiation between the Charleston and Berkshire will be the all-electric with hydronic heating in the Charleston and a standard propane furnace in the Berk.

I HOPE FR equips future versions of both lines with a VIP Smart Wheel - making that a distinguishing factor between the two lines would be a dumb business move IMHO.

I do hope that the Berk will at offer an option to extend the heated tile floor into the bedroom (as does the Ventana). It was VERY toasty in the living room in the XLT in 45-50° weather with the floors and fireplace on when we were at the plant in November. If they extend the tile, I'll bet that will provide more than enough electric warmth to the rig in mild weather.

Hint to FR: a remote control for the furnace/floors in the bedroom would be VERY nice (and keep me from having to get out of a warm bed to turn them on in the morning )

I read over on the Dynamax section that they can paint a special ordered coach with different colors. I wonder if the Berk guys would do that?

I bet that anything can be done for the right price. My only concern with a one off, special color paint would be the cost and availability of that specific color in case a repair was needed. It could become difficult/impossible/expensive to match down the road.

2016 Tag Axle Berk

I read someplace where someone took their coach just in primer. Took it to a company and had their own paint scheme on it.

As to FR doing this I would guess it would delay their schedule way too much to deal with it.

The bottom line is to keep the price as low as they can. FR not in the business of building "one off " coaches as some high $$ companies are. I'd guess there not too many of us FR owners that are willing to pay the extra $$.

I don't think it would be a problem matching colors on damage/repair. Every paint out there has a code and is easy to find. As far as cost going up, I don't think that would be a problem either, especially if a person would pick a color scheme that FR already uses.

Newmar does this and you can pick from any color that Newmar has ever used on any coach they have ever built. The cost is not that much more. They have to paint it anyway so the color really doesn't matter.
