34qs Bed Slide not working
2016 Berkshire 34qs
Bedroom, bed, slide on my 34QS not working properly. Motor engages but
the cogs on the motor do not seem to be engaging the track of the slide
plate.
I cannot find any manufacture numbers on the slide itself, however the
motor does have model number information.
I know the other 3 slides are Schwintek but not sure what the model is
for the bed slide. It appears that the motor and the single metal track
that is position in the middle of the slide are the only control for the
slide operation.
The only adjustment on the base of the metal frame that houses the motor
is a lag bolt in front. When I loosen the bolt I can tilt the slide
down or up and tighten the lag bolt. Tried different angles to no avail.
Any ideas or documentation on this type of slide would be greatly
appreciated.
-Tom

It looks like the same slide mechanism that’s on my 2013.
There are slots that allow you to adjust the motor upwards to better engage the gear track.
If memory serves me correctly there are 4 bolts that you can loosen and then gently pry up on the motor to move it up. I used loctite on the nuts (or bolts) once I got the motor into the right position.
Hope that helps.

This has been shared by several different folks including me who have had a similar issue with the particular slide.

Here's something for your library. The slides are numbered:
1. Front Drivers side
2. Rear Drivers side
3. Rear Passenger Side
4. Front Passenger side

Edgewant, my initial investigation I could not see if there is an adjustment for the motor, but in the schematics it looks as the motor is fixed. Warmer this week in N Texas so I should be able to dig back into hole and take a look.
Also there is an adjustment on the vertical Plate Mount that allows the slide to angle upward or downward slope. Any idea what function the engineers had in mind for this?

Slide motor
Bedroom slide
I received the slide motor from Equalizer. No instructions though. They sold me the motor at wholesale. The original had 60 to 80 cycles on it by my estimation. This is supposedly a re-engineered part.
There’s an old saying among motorcyclists, “There are bikers that have had accidents and bikers that are going to have an accident”.
It seem to also be true for people with slides. Have had problems or are going to have problems.
I’ll install the new part and wait for the next failure. Who knows maybe we’ll get 100 cycles.
Shouldn’t there be some responsibility here?

tekdgk59 - I own a 2018 Berkshire 40b xl and I am having a similar issue with my bedroom slide motor (I believe we have the same motor assembly). Just recently, when I opening the slide, it sounded like the gears were jumping the tracks. I tried closing the slide hoping that the gears would reset on the tracks, but to no avail. The motor is barely a year old so I don't think it is an issue with the motor. I contacted equalizer tech support and he told me it sounded like the gears were probably off track and the motor needed some minor adjusting. His recommendation was as follows:
With the slide all the way out loosen the four 1/2" bolts holding the motor in place.
With a crowbar put as much upward pressure as possible on the motor to push in into the gear rack.
Tighten the four 1/2" bolts back up to hold motor in the higher position.
Hope this helps. Jerry

Trappfarmer - Unfortunately I'll have to replace the slide-motor. Adjustment didn't work so I took apart the motor. One of the teeth from the internal gearing system was broken....Ugh! I have a call into Equalizer placing the order (Part#2097, $460.19). Jerry

Drive motor
Any words of wisdom about removing and replacing the drive motor?
I’m having a little anxiety about removing this. I have an image of the slide falling out!

Fairly straight forward. I didn't have any issues or concerns with slide falling out. Just open the slide completely by using your control panel. remove the mattress and partial base board screws to gain access to the motor. Loosen and remove the 4 bolts and 2 wires securing the motor-slide. The only challenge was lining up the gears to rack & pinion rail to ensure it seats properly. Jerry

Thanks to all who contributed schematics and slide layout, as well as suggestions and instructions. They were all very helpful. I was able to work on it today, and by George, it's fixed! (At least, until it slips again.) I appreciate all the help. -Tom

Motor spinning
I’m trying to fix the problem.
I tried to move the slide out. It made it about halfway, clicking as it went, when it stopped. The motor is spinning but the slide won’t move in or out. Can I push it out manually or is there something else holding it. It might take two people situated on each side of the bed. It’s going to be very difficult with the slide halfway.
Also, if I loosen the bolt in the slot can I jack/pry the motor up and tighten the bolt just to see if the teeth engage?

I know you said you put in a new motor, so I am questioning how the motor mounts. Could you take a picture from the other side where the motor mounts into the frame. Most of us included alignment procedures where those 4 motor mounting bolts are loosened and the motor is then raised where the motor armature is at the top of the slot. There are pictures in this thread. Your part number on the FR spec sheets (70006) is different than mine. I don't want to make assumptions and give you incorrect info.
That said, if the gear is not in contact with the rail, the slide can be pushed in or out.

Motor Mount
The second post in this thread has a link to the parts breakdown. You’ll find what you’re looking for on page 5 of the pdf.
Hot Tip:
The top two mounting bolts do not have enough clearance to allow the drive shaft (It’s not the armature of the motor) that sticks through the slot to be raised enough to fully engage the drive pinion gear with the rack. The rack is the shaft with teeth on one side that is attached to the slide. I’m going to try an allen head bolt to allow more clearance.
The drive shaft should have been designed with more offset from the mounting holes in the gearbox case. This would have allowed more clearance to the hex head of the mounting bolts at the top. A slightly larger diameter pinion gear would also be a good fix. I’ll add a picture of the pinion showing the wear pattern tomorrow.
