A Real "GOOD GRIEF" Moment

I'd turn around and find another route.... Imagine having to go UP this one....

Wow! The Old Priest Road west of Yosemite is "only" 17% and I truly thought we were gonna die when we accidentally took it with a 35' trailer. Turned around 1st chance and kissed the ground at the bottom. This is insane!!

I have been over this route on my harley many times, the grade is really not that bad but the turns are so sharp and tight anything of any length can't make it around them. I will be taking this pass on 18 aug on a motorcycle trip. Great sight seeing

Nope! 17% was scary enough when we were driving to the Grand Canyon. Thank GOD for the engine break!!

The highway over the pass is extremely steep (exceeding 8% for most of the traverse, and up to 26% grades in some locations), narrow and winding between Kennedy Meadows on the west side and Leavitt Meadows on the east. The route is not recommended for vehicles or vehicle combinations that are unusually wide, heavy or long. (quote from Wikipedia)

I have traveled it many times. It is not a bad drive by car or p/u. The scenery is wonderful and Leavitt Lake is worth a drive too but you will likely need all wheel drive or 4X4 to get to the lake.

Also on the Bridgeport side of the pass is a ghost town worth a tour. It was a mining town years ago. Bodie, CA is registered as a California Historical Landmark. Very interesting visit.

The question is.....not the 26% but for how long. Travel in lots of areas with 20% grades but often " pitches" that are only 1/2 mile or so with breaks.
Just curious

I had got the Mountain Directory years ago. Now, I see it is available in cell apps and E-book. Check out ..........
