Adventure 2022

We have settled into our winter location in Savoy, TX where we’ll be for 4-5 months....

On May 1, we head out for the Spring/Summer.... We plan on spending 3-4 months in Wy, MT, ID, OR, and CO....

I’ve already started firming up sites in our favorite CG’s - Gros Ventre just north of Jackson Hole; Colter Bay CG’s in The Tetons, Headwaters/Flagg Ranch near South Gate into Yellowstone....

More reservations will be made in NFCG’s in ID and OR...

Since the change in the reservation process for all these, I’m able to book these sites now instead of having to deal with all the mess that used to occur on January 1..... It’s nice to make the reservations and pay for them now and not be faced with that expense in six months....

We are looking forward to a 100% fun summer instead of work like the last two summers....

Sound like a great time. Are you using a trip planer or going old school with maps?

Downtown Savoy is only 20 miles by car from my home. You must be at 82 RV Park.

I’m our “trip planner”.... I have a method I’ve devised over the years that really makes planning our “adventures” pretty easy....

I use the “Maps” feature that’s on all phones AND the app “Allstays” exclusively to plan our trips....

We use what we call our “Triple 2” rule that helps with my routing of our trips:

- try to stop driving by 2:00
- drive around 200 miles
- stay 2 days in each CG

I enter a starting/ending location on the Maps app which routes my trip:

- Bonham, TX > Jackson, WY

I then take that route and break it into 200-225 mile sections....

I locate a town at the end of those 200 mile sections and then using Allstays I locate a CG....

I repeat the process over and over until I’ve arrived in Jackson, WY...

I’ve become so proficient at this that I can route a trip like this in about 30 minutes....

Once we arrive at Jackson, WY I then use Allstays to locate all my CG’s as our trip continues...

I used this method not long ago to route a 11K mile, 42 state, 9 month trip....

Allstays is the ONLY campground app I’ve used for years..... There are soooo many features of it that make traveling in an RV so much easier....

Sorry for such a long response - probably more info than you needed....

Our summer plans are to head west in the summer going to many of the states you mentioned. Hopefully ours paths will cross somewhere out there. Once our itinerary is planned, I will check back with you.

Well I got to thinking about my Gros Ventre 8 night reservations in generator section just north of Jackson Hole....

I researched May temperatures there and quickly realized I didn’t want us sleeping with no heat for 8 nites with low temps in low 30’s upper 20’s!!!! (Quite time is 10:00 pm - 8:00 am)

So I came up with Plan B!!!

Took me three days and multiple attempts but I replaced those 8 nites with no generator with 8 nites with electricity....

Did have to reserve 4 nites in two different sites but Got Her Done!!!!

I love that the new system allows reservations to be made this far in advance....

Way too dang cold in Savoy for this old boy. I do hope we don't get chilled like last winter.

Still firming up CG reservations for our trip -

Arrive in the Jackson Hole area May 15 and will be in the Tetons, Yellowstone NP, West Yellowstone and Island Park, ID thru June 25 so far.....

We are spending many, many nites in NFCG’s which we love (plus my Senior Pass allows us to stay for 1/2 price....

I plan on us staying in NE ID another week or so and then slowly moving west into OR and WA where we’ll be 6 weeks or so....

Lived near Jackson hole in the 80’s.

I can confirm there was only one night of the year the heater in my trailer home did not come on! We were at 6300’.

North of 80 even in the summer can be cold. It can snow as well. I remember a Memorial Day we got two inches. It was gone after noon, but, it was snow!

You have to plan for heat.

Every CG we have from Gros Ventre, Colter Bay, Headwaters Flagg Ranch and even our NFCG’s all have electricity so we have the heat thing covered thru June.... In addition, I have a heated freshwater hose, heated tanks and heat in my basement compartments...

A little snow would be nice - notice I said a little.... LOL...,

Route now worked out north from Crater Lake area up thru OR into WA and then will move over into ID and MT....

Will be heading towards Glacier NP in early August....

Our final destination will be Pigeon Forge, TN in late September where we will be attending the National Southern Quartet Convention....

After that - back to Texas for the winter....
