Awning Lights

Ok so new question, what does everybody do for light under their awnings?

I too am considering installing something. The LED colored lights seem to be very popular but I hear that the LED strips are prone to problems. I wonder if the lighted rope would stand up better.

It will be interesting to see people's mods.

I purchased a 5 meter strip of RGB waterproof LEDs with black printed circuit board on EBAY. Attached them to the bottom of the kitchen slide out cover on the bottom of the awning cover. Ran power from the kitchen counter area up the backside of the slide out interior trim and out the top of the slide. The IR remote receiver is attached to the top of outer surface of the slide behind the slide awning. Looks and works good. Now I have light regardless if I have the patio awning out or not. The installation is fairly new so we will see how robust the LEDs are. Only paid around $14 for the 5 meter strip. They are supposedly waterproof (IP65 I think??). They are installed on a 2013 390RB.

I plan on installing my LED strip under the motohome.
I saw one with rope lights under each side last year and like it

LED rope lights, the plastic does not hold up well when exposed to light and weather it turns brown and becomes brittle in 4-6 months.

Left two hanging and plugged in outside half of the lights on one quit working within two months and a few on the other.

overall I was not impressed.

Most of the LED lights are coming from China and do not last long, the good thing is they are 15-20 bucks a set, unlike the Dometic ones that I put on my camper 3 years ago and are still working fine, but then I paid 165 for them. The difference is the quality!!!

I used the 5 meter strip and put it on the awning tube. Ran four wire sprinkler cord up inside the side posts and down to my front storage where connected to power. My on/off switch has all the tricks but just ordered the same thing but with an RF remote.

If the lights are white light then yes, the festive colored light may not.

My 2 bits...I watched a short utube vid re the Dometic brand. Covered the install under the gutter side of the awning and also running the power via a drill hole over the galley area on in to a duplex power plug. Anyway, they used the all white led set-up and seemed to be pretty impressed by the light output and lack of heat. Bug attraction? Dunno...but think they make the yellow variety as well. They also offer the tacky
multi-colored vari-"glow" kind which they claim might help you find your way back home in the CG (triggered by your remote...) but Gees, if you can't find your way back in a campground from wherever you walked then how in Hades did you ever find the
CG in the first place...lol! (I think that set ran around $110- on line?). -PB

I can picture, (at the CG on Lake Barkley we camp at regularly) the side of the camper an inch thick with bugs. When you open the door the critters fill the camper. I keep the lights out on the end flap of the awning, or on the perimeter of the site to avoid as many bugs as possible.

Echhhh...good point! If I buy( Dometic leds...) then will put on the furthest edge of the awning instead to prevent that problem. Hope they aren't those...stink bugs!? Anyway, any kind of bug is not a happy experience. Thnx!

Bugs are attracted to the white LEDs

We have some white lighted bushes in our landscaping that really attract gnats !

They also attract other campers that want to see what's going on at the party site!

I installed mine under the gutter, drilled one hole that went into a cabinet and got power from 12 v under cabinet light. Blue led lights also double sided auto molding tape to hold them on. The glue on part they come with doesn't work so good. Got the lights on Amazon for $9.00 and a dimmer switch for $5.00.

First I'm not implying that anyone here has done this but as you are adding all the LED lights it is very easy to get carried away. We were at a park that had ten or so seasonal sites that looked like a LED gypsy convention. Just way over done and they left them on all night. We parked next to a Prevost that had the brightest white LED's on the awning and under the MH and it lite up the whole park and he also left them on all night. I like the lights and all and will put something on mine but subtle is better. I hope I didn't offend any Gypsy's.

You may have offended the Prevost owner.....DOH! They need to be offended once in a while anyway.

They are nice, but holy crap, I could do a lot more with $1.5 to $2 million plus. Of course unless I had that much just lying around somewhere.
