Has anyone added a wind sensor to their awning to auto-retract? If so what brand, how to links? Worth the monies? Thanks y'all!!

My Berkshire 3 90 RB has one. Came from the factory standard. I thought they all did.

Never heard of anyone adding the wind sensors, but have seen a lot of folks add awning poles to disable the sensors.

Our 2011 came with one. It works great and we seldom even think about it. We come home and the awning is in. There are three settings
I'm surprised your doesn't have it.

Oh, I bet your awning is connected to the slide as I have seen on some newer models.
What brand awning is on your 38A?

After looking at a couple pictures online it looks like a Carefree of Colorado.
That is what comes on the older/other Berkshire models also and has wind sensors.
Can you find the documentation that came with your rig?
Or, one quick way may be to look at your awning switches.
Mine has 3 switches. One is labeled 'Motion'.

Other than light and step switches the two awning switches are simple 'in' & 'out' for the main awning and the door awning! Guess something had to go to hit that price point! 😉

So, do you make some to fit a Berkshire awning? Carefree of Colorado Eclipse model?

Yea sounds like it.
Our main awning has 3 switches
1. On/Off (this will disable motion detect if off)
2. Retract/Extend
3. Motion Low/Med/Hi
BTW, I have seen kits on the Carefree and even on Amazon to add it to the Carefree Eclipse awning. I believe they call the feature Direct Response.

Our 2012 Berk 390BH60 also came with motion sensor. I was a little sceptical when we first got the unit but it works like a charm.
Perfect for those middle of the night storms or ones that come up while away on an outing.

Hi, Nathan! Our 2015 Legacy didn't come with that system either. I checked prices to add it, which looks like an easy chore, but the cost is about $500 for the controller. I don't have any experience with them but friends gave told me they didn't care for them as they retracted the awning in a light breeze. Could be adjustment issues or ? For now, mine will remain manual at that cost. Watch the cheaper controls on Amazon...they most likely aren't for the particular model you have and there us a huge difference.

Our awning has a variable sensitivity. We keep it on high. It takes a stiff wind to trigger a retraction yet sensitive enough to prevent damage.
It's a fantastic option yet I would be very reluctant to pay $500 plus $200/hr shop fee.
Although I feel sure that shop rates in the US would be much less.

Yes, they did away with the wind sensors in the newer models. As Nathan mentioned, probably made the cut to keep the price point.

Found a logo on my awning "Carefree". Also found this on Amazon. Not sure I understand what is $500 as this seems to retract the awning with wind? Am I missing something?! Thanks all

Carefree of Colorado is not cheap! The OTD awning replacement just cost me $1400.00. I had an estimate for a manual awning over the dinette windows, $1000.00.

Yep, Nathan - I thought that was great, too, but check your model number and I think you'll find it won't work with the model FR uses, thus the much more expensive one.

If you will post a picture of the ends of the awning tube I should be able to tell you if they will fit.
