Ernest,
I believe I am going. Trying to get to a warmer place. Below 0 here tonight and outlook for next 10 days is below freezing. Looked up forecast for Perry. A heck of a lot better than here. Rig is at the Submarine Base in Kings Bay, GA. A short trip over to Perry. Will be dry camping. If you see another Berkshire with New York Plates and a Submarine decal, it will be me.

Getting close to time to head for Perry.... I hope the shop delivers my coach Tuesday as promised. If not, it's going to be a challenge getting packed and ready to go....

Frankatp,
Thanks! Look forward to meeting you! Also please thank your son for his service. I am told that only about 2 % of the population now has the honor of having served. You are undoubtedly proud, as you should be!!!
Safe travels!!

Hey Guys, it's getting close to departure time and I am nervous as hell about towing our Jeep for the first time. Still not sure about how to position the transmissions. I am getting conflicting stories about the position of the transfer case and gear shift. One guys says put the Transfer case in neutral and put it in gear, and the next says transfer case to 4 Hi and shift into 5th gear. I need some guidance here. Thanks Frank

Look in your owners manual. My Cadillac SRX that I tow behind my 14 berkshire has a section for dinghy towing and gives specific instructions on how and what to do.

Frank,
Does your Jeep have a standard or automatic transmission? I had a standard transmission Bronco II many years back and I put both the transfer case and transmission in neutral. Seemed to work just fine.

Thanks JTN8, I feel like a dummy for not checking there first. It details how to tow behind a recreational vehicle. Imagine that! LOL We (I) would love to have an SRX. Been drooling over one for at least a year. Do you have the larger engine in your Berk? Ours is the smaller one and the weight limit is real close.
Thanks again Frank

Mine is 14 390Bh with the 340 HP and upgraded suspension and tires and GVWR. I weighed it full of gas and all of our stuff and my wife and I and it came in at 27300. The caddy weighs about 4200 so that puts me at 31500 so I still have about 1500 lbs to spare for water or extra stuff before I hit my GCVWR. Both axles were good with the weights an still under the max's...
I love the SRX and it tows great and very easy to set up!!!

Do you use a brake system towing the SRX?

No. Before I bought the berk I had a gas southwind and never used a brake system with that but stopping in a pinch was a little tough. With the berk and air brakes an the SRX on the back, still stops very well with no issues. I know some states require it but i don't use one and haven't had an issue where I felt I needed it. By no means am I saying in doing the right thing. Just my opinion on weather or not to use one.
