Camp Freightliner

Well, we are reserved for Camp Freightliner on 9-16 and 17. We'll see if they can train a totally unmechanical CPA and wife about the care and feeding of a diesel pusher. We also scheduled the first maintenance at the same time. Has anyone else ever done the Freightliner class?

Obviously I haven't, having never owned a diesel. How has it been owning yours? Until recently we had never seen any diesels with the floorplan like our 378ts but Winnebago has evidently made several of them going back to at least 2005. Their new Ellipse coming out for 2011 has a very similar floorplan to the 378 in a 40' rig on the Freightliner chassis. There is also the Tuscany 4056 which Powerboater has that is a great floorplan. It has me thinking about the move over to a diesel but it is still a few years off. We really don't need the capacity until we retire. Besides we really like our GT378. However in another 3 or 4 years who knows. We may be joining you there.

Be sure to learn as much as you can. We will be using you as our go-to-guy for all mechanical questions. (lol)

Tom, I'll continue to answer the tax questions, but as for the mechanical issues I'm just now learning which end of the screwdriver to use.

I've heard really good things about the course. Most people who have attended it have very positive reactions to it. We'll see if they can teach a very unmechanical CPA all about the diesels along with my equally unmechanical wife.

As for the coach, so far we are very pleased. It is nice to carry on a conversation with the person next to you without the roar of the monster V-8 next to you. We are also very pleased about being able to stop quicker with the air brakes than the hydraulic brakes on our Itasca gasser. Those are a few of the pluses. Of course one of the big minuses is that the diesel is more involved and that's why we're taking the course!

Ed,
I too have read nothing but good reviews about the course. I'm sure that it will be very beneficial and you will learn much. I hope to attend one day myself. Hope you have a great trip.
Tom

I missed the July class (it was full) and I haven't checked into the fall dates yet. That's great that you will be attending class and getting your coach serviced at the same time. Have fun.

Debbie,

It appears that there are still openings in the Sept. 16-17 classes. If you can you ought to head down with us. It should be fun and informative. It is a cheap enough class that's for sure.

Ed,
I just called Debbie Moore and left her message to call me or e-mail me for the Sept 16-17 class. I'll keep you posted.

I'll do a report when we get back. Hopefully my downstate buddy, Debbie, will be able to make the course also. It should be fun and informative. I like the idea of taking care of service at the same time. When I called them they were very accomodating which is a very good sign. We'll see how they can handle my DW who can be a little on the OCD side at times. (Man, I'm glad she doesn't read this forum!)

We attended the class back in March, I found it to be very informative and definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the input nighttrain. I think it is definitely worth our drive down to SC for the classes.

We're headed out to Camp Freightliner in the morning so I'll let you know what it's like.

Ed,
Have a great trip and take a lot of notes. I don't care what you say, you will now become the resident expert on the Freightliner chassis.
Enjoy and have a safe trip!!
Tom
