Cost of oil change

I know we've talked about oil changes and the cost, but the "search this thread" feature is not working. I'm staying at The Great Outdoors in Titusville FL and they have an on site facility that quoted me $289 to do oil, filter, chassis lube and check all fluid levels. This is my first time, seams a little high or is this reasonable?

If that's for the main engine as well as generator it's a pretty decent price. If it's just for the main engine oil change, it looks a little high to me.

I got 37 point preventative maintenance check, oil change, lube, fuel filter, water separator, coolant test w/strips and a gallon of washer fluid for $214.81 at my local freightliner oasis dealer. My first oil change was done through a dealer and it was about $225 and took about 4 hours. They overfilled and did tell me that they didn't do many diesels. I never went there again for an oil change. I have done it myself for about $75 for oil and filter. Not hard to do, but must have tools, place and something to catch the oil.

You said it is on site so I take they are coming to you. On top of that until you have crawled under a Berk to lube it you have no idea what fun is, I would say that is not bad.

Our local cummins/freightliner dealer charges $480 that includes all filters, gas and oil, chassis lube, complete chassis/engine inspection and radator anti-freeze testing. That includes the generator and engine.

If you're heading west they have Speedco service centers for large trucks and RVs. I got the full Monty done in Vegas for $166. Next time it's due I'm heading out west again, it's just too good of a deal. Not sure their range of operations but great service.

Can not really judge price as you did not (do not?) have the brand/ type of oil, oil filter, if the generator is being serviced?
You will find that the price of this is going to change all over the country, but to service a big diesel is NOT cheap,(people need to understand this is not your fathers chev, anymore) there is a lot of oil, the filters (yes more than one) are not cheap for approved filters and YES there is a huge difference from good to cheap filters in the media filtering abilities. So if they are using good quality oil and filter it is not to far out or range, but as i stated you do not have all the info to really give a good opinion.

For the prices mentioned, I would be doing my own service work.

Did you know there are at least 3 Speedco locations in your state?

I doubt that anyone can do the annual service recommended by Freightliner for $166. Probably can do only an oil change for that price.

A typical annual service for a Berkshire as recommended by Freightliner is shown below.

This is only engine oil change, including chassis lube and checking all other fluids. The oil they are using is Shell Rotella T 15w40 and filter is Lubrifinder. Don't know if I spelled them correctly but are those ok?

Dan, I looked up the nearest Speedco and the view on Google maps looked like a dump, also all reviews were very negative. Don't want to take it there!

Do motorhomes even need chassis lube? Most cars and trucks these days have "permanently" lubed joints - but maybe I'm just ignorant about MH's.

Almost sounds like a gimmick. I know auto repair shops still push "tuneups" to the ignorant, even though new cars don't have points, condensers, distributor caps or most of the other stuff you replaced or adjusted during a "tuneup."

That 36 month schedule means when the coach is 36 month old. Not to do the maintenance every 36 months.
