Well, someone had to say something. It might as well be me.
At some point we’ll be moving these gentle giants down the road. The cancer has delayed our trips until June. I’ve got 100 gallons of three dollar go juice in the tank. We’ve been averaging 10.1 MPG so we’re good for a little less than 900 miles with a comfortable reserve. I’ve run with the low fuel warning Claxton reminding me (along with my co-pilot) that we were within the margin of error of the gauge from being stranded by the side of the road.
So the big question is: What’s our initial heading so that when we need fuel it’s not the highest price I’m the land.
We start our trek in Maryland so for us it’s North,South or West.

The last time we weree in MD, we got the best priced diesel we've ever gotten at Appleton Market outside Elkton. North is not the direction for you. In all honesty, if you look at the GasBuddy Heat map, the midwest is the place to go for affordable fuel. Just understand that you're looking at Gasoline Prices and Diesel will be "sort-of-related" to the gas prices.

It used to be that, at least around here diesel was just a few cents higher than premium gas and seemed to move up and down in step with gas prices. This isn't true any more. Diesel is anywhere from $6.40 - $7 while premium is around $4.60 - $4.90.

When I purchased my 2021 GMC 1500 with the 3.0 litre Duramax, diesel was always .25 - .50 cheaper than gas here in Northern NV. Now it is more expensive by at least the same. We just returned from a trip to Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and Vegas. So in AZ, CA and NV, diesel was running anywhere from .50 up to $1.50 more than gas. God help the poor truckers. And we wonder why prices for everything everywhere are exploding...

Diesel in Iowa yesterday was $5.39 a gallon in Cedar Rapids.

It costs a lot everywhere. Avoid remote places. Keep your tank above 1/2 in the rural West.
This week I saw some prices over $7 for diesel in remote eastern CA. Plan ahead.

We're about half way through a 4000 mile trip. Been through Ar,Tx,Nm and all over Az. With using different discount fuel cards and rewards cards, so far averaging $4.98 a gallon for diesel.Looks like it will be well over $5 average cost by the time we finish our trip. Still having fun and not going to let fuel cost stop us. Life is short. Worst tank mpg EVER was 7 mpg due to 30 to 40 mph wind. Best tank 12.7 mpg. Agree. We are going regardless of fuel price. Currently in Flagstaff AZ. Price in town is $5.39 and $5.75 at most truck stops. I did see $6.70 in Williams AZ but that is a small tourist town.
When traveling down the road with the RV I just look for the easiest place. When unhooked I can hunt a bit for a lower price. We do use a credit card that gives us money back, about $100 every 6 weeks as we use it for everything.
I also carry 2 five gallon diesel cans for those small towns we have to fill at that I can't get into the pumps. Have used them a few times this trip while traveling the backroads.
No sense in worrying too much about fuel prices unless you plan to just stop traveling.

South - GA and SC were the cheaper than FL, with NC and VA being a bit more (10 to 25 cents/gal) . Diesel was $5.50 or more everywhere ($5.65 was a common price) DC and PA were expensive. We did top up in MD, but since it was only 15 gallons, the price wasn't important.
We found that going 55 to 60 MPH was the most important way to save money on fuel, use less of it.
It will pay to check prices - tho we got stung that the price on the web for a particular Love's was 20 cents higher than listed.

Will I had to buy gas for my lawn mower today, which was $5.15 a gallon for 87 octane. I then filled up my truck with diesel, I paid $4.98 a gallon. So, finally diesel is cheaper than gas where I live in IL.

There are many sites online that will give you average prices by state along with the Gasbuddy website and app.

Friends of ours just canceled Arizona to Washington trip.not worth the cost at over a dollar per mile in the pheaton currently.how much to return.

Everyone has different limits and determinations of if a cost is worthwhile to them.

The price of fuel does really stink- Worse they are talking about fuel shortages.


I do not get to use my RV enough as is- So if I had a great year and put 10,000 mile on it- I would burn 1100 gallons- that may cost me an extra $3000 this year-

We just talked with our daughter in Mass. as we prepare to head to NE for the summer. She said regular gas at one station that is usually low was at 4.79 while diesel was at 6.39... Luckily, I don't intend to fuel up there once we arrive that I will have to at least once in NE fill up...we're not changing our plans but prepared for how much more this year vs. last year's average $3.21/gal we paid. I hear it's going to get worse which makes you wonder where all the fuel we produce in the US is going but if you wait for it to get lower at our age it may be a pipe dream or too late so off, we will go and enjoy our trip. Hopefully our TSD card will help save some.

If the conversion tool I used is correct, diesel fuel here just east of Toronto is currently the equivalent of US$6.56/US gallon.

As of this morning in S.E. Wisconsin regular gas (87) is $4.49 and diesel is $5.09.

Just got back from a 1340 mile trip in the SW. Diesel was anywhere from $4.99 to $6.20 with an average around $5.50. The old Duramax averaged 11.2 for the entire trip and we pulled a lot of grades in windy conditions. I am pleased.
Cost per mile was 40¢.
