And then bill me for the truck separately as a passenger car. you think it would be easy to fix but it is not. The total for the motorhome was $61 and the total for the pick up truck was $21 just a simple 82 dollars to cross the bridge once. Yes the easy pass is registered as a motorhome but they still charge me as an 18 wheeler. I have tried with a transponder in the pick up and without just as they instructed need to do. But I still get billed that way I spent an hour at the ez Toll customer center today. They still cannot tell me whether to run one vehicle with a transponder in the motorhome or two vehicles. It seems nobody knows what they’re doing. What are other people doing to avoid this? Thanks for your help in advance.
Do you have a transponder in each vehicle? If so, you'll be double-billed. Having a transponder only in the RV SHOULD -- not to be confused with WILL -- notice your tow bar and bill the trip as a single vehicle, based on the total number of axles. If you also have a transponder in the towed car, the first transponder will be billed for all of the axles as noted above, and the second will be billed for just the car. (At least that's what they told us in Indiana.)

I wonder if it is the EZPass by state that is the issue. In PA they give the white ones to non-commercial and blue to commercial. I use the same pass for my truck and car. My wife has her own for her car. When I use the trailer it just calculates the axles as I hit the metal stripes at the toll. EZPass PA does not need anything for towing or not (according to them). I used it once to use the turnpike in PA with a 26K lbs Bearcat on my way to Ft Indiantown Gap and EZPass said just hold it out the window so it scans... LOL

The only problem I ever had was going into Canada and just then (no kidding) the battery crapped out and the toll arm would not raise and they could not over ride it at the toll. Had to back up at the port of entry to another toll with a person to pay cash.

X2 for NJ, I have one transponder for my truck but was instructed not to use it on my cars since that transponder is linked to my RV.
Transponders are free, so we got one for each car.
In Pa they have ez pass only off ramps, which help save miles to your destination.

Check the ezpass web state, or just visit you local ezpass office.

Those are the rules in NY

In NY if the vehicle being towed can be easily disconnected and driven (ie. flat tow) EZ Pass will bill the vehicle being towed as a separate charge. The only way to avoid the additional charge is to have all 4 wheels on a trailer.

List the license plate on your EZ-pass account as a trailer. Then when the camera system reads your toad's tag it will show as a trailer on your account and it will just count as additional axles with the motorhome and be charged accordingly.

EZ Pass in Florida Ugh!

Needed to get on I 75 heading north to head up to I 10 so I hopped on the Florida Turnpike at route 27 towing flat a Honda CRV. I only have an EZ Pass for the Honda. On the way home, heading south, got off at route 27 again. So same exits getting on and getting off the turnpike. I get a bill for going north bound only. For some unknown reason EZ Pass correctly charged me heading south but only charged me for the car heading north. Not a big deal but then there was an administration charge. Now the principle of the mischarge comes into play. After dealing with EZ Pass via email and phone calls after more than 12 months they dismissed the administration charge and the toll for the motorhome headed north bound. I got to enjoy the experience like that I had with the DMV. I've decided not to use EZ Pass next time I head up to I 10. Yes a little slower and not as direct, but besides not having to pay the toll I won't have to deal with EZ Pass errors.

I guess I must be very lucky dealing with easy pass here in pa. Every time I've ever had a problem I send them an email and it's been quickly corrected.

I checked on the Delaware ezpass website and they say you only need a special transponder for NY and West Virginia. So I guess that’s good for me.

I hear your frustration, but I wouldn't waste an hour or more of my time trying to get a few dollars back.

Did you pull the Ezpass transponder out of the truck and cover it with foil before you left?

EZpass will charge your MH ezpass for the MH AND the toad, PLUS charge your Toad EZpass for the toad if you don't pull transponder out of toad.

The easy thing is to avoid toll roads and bridges. You pay to use them with your taxes, then they charge you again with a toll. Tell me how a state can charge a toll on an interstate highway when the federal government pays 80% of the cost for the roads and maintenance.

Alot of times, alternate routes around toll roads not only make your trip longer but you can spend more in fuel than if you actually just paid the tolls.

Now.i won't disagree with paying for a road already paid for by the feds. I wonder that everytime I head through DE and they charge a toll on i95. Turnpikes I get since they are private roads (in pa at least). But I agree the time I have to camp and the time saved in miles or fuel is better than bypassing the toll roads.

Try to come down through Delaware heading to OBX and not use the CBBT. I followed my Dad down once years ago, he turned a 9 hour trip into 13 hours but we did not use the bridge

[emoji23] yeah... It is a nice ride over the tunnel though. Probably pricey but saves time.
