Fresh Water Tank Question
I’m currently at a CG hooked up to city water.... (been here since yesterday afternoon)
Went outside and noticed water coming out of one of the hoses under the compartment that hold all my tanks - blk, grey and fresh....
Upon opening compartment, I discovered it was the overflow hose AND my freshwater tank was so full it was up against the blk/grey tanks above it....
I immediately shut off city water and opened tank drain....
It’s been draining abt an hour and is now back down to normal size....
Apparently, the city water was going into the fresh water tank....
I have a new (2 months) water pump..,
Any ideas????

the pump- or water line should have a check valve. It must be leaking and back filling your tank.
Most pumps today have check valve built it. May just have some dirt in it. Try running the pump some- mine has a strainer- if your does I would check it for dirt.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. Instead of taking the pump apart, put in a new ckeck valve between the pump and tank. That didn't work. Took the water selective control knob out. This had a broken o-ring that allowed water to flow into fresh water tank. Replaced the knob, no more water going into the tank.
This was the Anderson Kantleak valve from American Brass Co.

This is probably the most common issue that comes up on this forum and has been addressed dozens of times over the years.
Many people just fill the fresh water tank, then close the campground water supply and run off their pump until the tank needs filling again. I do this regularly and it helps maintain a fresh turnover of water in my tanks.
There are check valves that you can find on Amazon or other sources to add at your pump to help prevent the backflow of city water pressure to your tank.
One common cause of the oem check valve leaking is operating your water pump while connected and open to city water pressure.

This should remind people that are hooked up to 'city water' and are planning on being away from their unit for any amount of time.... shut the city water off until you return.

Agreed. I've never had a problem but have read too many stories about people who came back to water running out the door or to neighboring people saying they turned the water off because they noticed water coming out the door. <shudder>

1437.... my 2008 coach doesn’t have a “water selective control knob”
I only have a city water connection and a flush connection..

I did add a new water pump back in August tho..... It seems to work perfectly (loud tho)

I used my water pump yesterday afternoon/night...
At new CG for next 3 days and appears to be back to normal when hooked up to city water.....
Hopefully running pump cleared up problem....

You should have a 'fill connection' to your freshwater tank and a 'connection' for city water pressure only. You will not need your water pump on when using city water. What am I missing?

I stand corrected - I do also have a tank fill connection.... Also - I'm awRe you don't run the pump if you're connected to city water....

That setting will be more than enough for faucets and chances are it will be lower than what the regulated city water pressure is, perhaps even with a cheap Camco regulator.

Running the water pump while being hooked up to city water wasn’t my problem - my freshwater tank filled up while hooked up to city water.... I believe the check valve on my relatively new water pump became stuck.....
Problem has now corrected itself - YEA!!!!

We put 2 small square "horse stall mats" (bought from Tractor Supply) One on top of the other. Cut down to size to fit in water bay area under the water pump. The 2 rubber mats act to absorb some of the sound. Makes it much more quiet.

I have a 2018 39a Berkshire, my unit feeds water into the tank if I leave the pump on. Took me a while to figure
Out what was causing the overflow, as long as I leave the pump off when hooked up to city water, all is good. My rv has done this since the day I purchased it new.

Many times when the campground water pressure is too high, it will back feed into the fresh water tank.
The water pump is designed to do this...so that it does not over-pressurize the tank. But of course has a limited supply of water from the tank...not so, when connected to city.

Agree. Never a problem either but reading about them here is another issue.
DW always asks why I’m shutting off the city water valve when we go anywhere and I always respond, just in case.
