Made my own refrigerator door holder to keep the doors closed while traveling. Easy to remove the peg and get in and out of the fridge while traveling.

Great idea! How did you attach it to the fridge?

Fridge door holder while traveling

I used maybe 1/4 round stock, sheared to length, notched the pieces where I wanted them to cross and welded them together, ground off the rough stuff and used heat shrink around the metal and drilled hole to fit the cross bar. Made a template out of cardboard for the bracket, bent a 90' in the bracket, drilled 3 holes for the screws and added clear silicone and screwed it to the fridge. It's held up for almost 900 miles so far!! Painted it black before mounting ......

I thought all refers for RV's had latches on them????? I would expect even a residential refer used in an RV would have some type of latching mechanism. To not have a factory supplied latch would be irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer.

They don’t all have, no. The residential in my Berkshire does, but I’ve owned other rv’s that didn’t. Making something that’ll work is a smart move in our experience, having had the pleasure of cleaning the contents off the floor.

My two door residential refreigerator in my cross country doesnt have anything to hold it closed either. We use a bungee cord wrapped around the two handles. The freezer is the low door and it doesnt come open. But the refrigerator doors will!

I use the Fridge Fixer for our residential fridge too. The new design works great and my wife is much happier not having to stand by the door going around corners in Colorado anymore.

Carl (at Fridge Fixer) is great to work with and if he doesn't have one for your specific refrigerator he will make you one.

That's some innovative craft work. My FR Cottage had a Whirlpool double door stainless with nothing to keep doors shut. Went in my wife's cleaning closet and got a mop handle, placed through handles during transit. I remembered where the mop was from cleaning macaroni and broken food bowls up the first time we moved it

French door refer doors

Our 3 door (french door) residential refer did not want to stay closed during transit. The strap furnished just did not work.

We found child safety locks at Wal-Mart. They are easy to install, easy to unhook and hook, and are not altering the refrigerator in any way. Attached with double backed tape which came with the locks.

First picture is top of french doors. Second is side of freezer drawer (Note the top child lock is latched and the bottom one is in the unlatched position. Third is looking at front top of refrigerator.

We have the same problem with our french door fridge in our 5er. We used the little straps with suction cups at first. Wow, were they worthless. I have been using bundgee cords, but they have not always worked at times. I'm going to try the child proof locks first, I think, because I should be able to find that locally. Then the fixer. The cost either way is minimal compared to having the fridge contents are all over the place. Thanks for the ideas.

An alternative fridge latch that holds the door ajar or closed

My solution to the fridge door problem is discussed at http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ml#post1320742

It has the advantage that you can also use it do hold the door open while you drive back to the RV storage lot, letting the fridge evaporate mold-creating moisture.

Here is how I solved mine:

and my freezer drawer would slide open just not as often as the fridge doors
