Fuel filter.

Has anyone changed there fuel filters on a 2012 390bh- 60. I looked in the manual and ordered the parts listed. The one with the water separator is wrong. Just looking for a correct part number so I can order the right one. Mine has a clear bowl on the bottom of it.

Yes. There is one solid case filter and one with a plastic clear bottom water separator. I need the part number for the water separator filter. The one listed in manual is not correct.

Here is what is on the canister for the fuel water seperator that I have-

Alliance Fuel/Water Seperator Replacement Element P/N ABP/N 122R50419

This is for the cartridge part only- not the amber bowl. The cartridge does not come with the bowl - it is sold seperately. If I were you, I would buy another bowl and assemble the 2 parts prior to changing it because the fuel is gravity fed to the seperator and when you remove it, fuel will continue to pour out as long as it is off.

I didn't know this when I first changed it and I got soaked with diesel. It doesn't come out of your clothes very easily!! (LOL!)

Hope this helps.
Tom

Him,
That sheet was done in April '07 and doesn't really address the 6.7l ISB. May have been changes between '07 and '08 and newer engines.

i just got home and pulled out my manual for my 2013 390bh-60.

i have the ISB6.7 CM2250 cummins engine manual and it has these filters listed:

Lubricating Oil
cummins part number 3937736
fleetguard part number LF3970

Fuel Filter
cummins part number 4934845
fleetguard part number FF5632

Fuel Filter (PreFilter with WIF Sensor)
cummins part number 4934879
fleetguard part number FS1065

Crankcase Ventilation Filter (Rocker Lever Cover Mounted)
cummins part number 4936636
fleetguard part number CV5200100

Crankcase Ventilation Filter (Rear Engine Mounted)
cummins part number 3683918
fleetguard part number CV5060700

Aftertreatment DEF Dosing Unit Filter
cummins part number 2880298

---------------------------------
But as tmmar pointed out, there is an Alliance fuel filter unit installed instead of the cummins/fleetguard filter. Alliance is a Freightliner add on part, not cummins original to cummins. perhaps that why your part numbers don't match up? if that's the case, just make sure you check the compatible parts listings for those filters for a match.

I carry two spare fuel filters and the bowl. Depending where you breakdown you may not be close to a location to purchase a fuel bowl.

Follow up-- I finally broke down and went the hr drive to freightliner. The isb 6.7 takes a allied filter /water separator. The filter listed in the manual is wrong for the water separator. The fleetguard number for the second filter is correct. I also got a extra fuel bowl just in case. Thanks for all the help here and hope someone else learns from my mistake.

Mine had the fs1065 listed in manual like yours. It was not correct on my unit. 2012 isb6.7. I even went to a local parts store to cross reference a wix or Fram and they didn't work either. I hope that helps.

oh i think i see what's going on... you are wanting to keep the alliance yellow housing bowl and just replace only the alliance filter element. in that case, only the alliance part number will work.

i think the other part numbers replace the entire housing as well. that's why they should not work inside the alliance housing.

thanks for the follow through!

Napa 3813

That weird. My alliance filter number is different than yours and so was the fleetguard number. I guess they change the filter systems regularly.

I have the same Alliance number as you. The number in the previous post is the Alliance number before our current Alliance number. Many times they change the filter slightly and give it a new number so it will take the aftermarket a while to make their version.
