Heavy Damage on our "Cajun Lady" due to Hurricane Ida

Our "Cajun Lady" (2020 Berkshire 39A) suffered major damages due to Hurricane Ida on Aug. 29, 2021. We live in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana which was ground zero for this cat 4 hurricane. I could not evacuate because i am the Executive Director of the local levee district. I am the CEO of our hurricane protection system. The 140+ winds collapsed our aluminum cover on top of our RV causing serious body damage. It appears she will need a complete paint job, a new windshield, a new roof, replacement of some windows, and a new satellite dish. I don't think she is totaled, because the retail value of this RV still should be about $200K. I plan of taking her to our dealership in Hammond, LA (Berryland) early next week. I think this insurance claim may exceed $80K. Any advice? Should we trade in after we make repairs? Will Forrest River, or my dealer, take the insurance check and the RV as is as a trade? We love our Berkshire and would welcome getting a like model. Thanks for listening to me. Reggie Dupre

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Ida missed us this year, up here in Alex, but Delta and Laura both got us last year, within a month. We actually took our Berryland bought Windjammer to the Mississippi Nat'l Forest just east of Natchez for one of them. On the plus side, Berryland folks seem really fair. Good Luck to you.

1st glad you and your family are ok.


I would call your insurance company and ask them for the name of an rv repair center.


It sounds like a lot of damage, with luck they may total it.


If repaired correct- It should be fine-


But I would ask about the repair time, and the loss of value due to a major repair .


I live in NJ, and my brother in law had a boat damaged from Hurricane Sandy- took 18 month to repair.

I believe you need to do what your insurance co. directs, after you tell them if it's even driveable. If not, the ins. needs to cover towing or whatever to get it to an agreed upon repair shop. I would probably ask for an adjuster to evaluate it first, as it may be totaled.

I would totally be pushing insurance to total it! The way repairs are made these days I know I’d never be at peace after repairs. Plus, I wouldn’t want to be an unknowing purchasing family if you repair and sell. JMHO.
